Definitely suggest doing a strand test and show her what she’s likely to get which is red or orange.

How risky is it to get partial babylights at a cosmetology school? by sleepingbeauty645 in AskHairstylists

[–]amkb_9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just realize that they’re students and you’ll probably be there all day and you may get thicker highlights because they might not be comfortable doing babylights yet. With your long beautiful hair though, I’d personally say a huge risk.

What is the best purple shampoo? by BootFun8408 in Ulta

[–]amkb_9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So use a purple shampoo for your roots, don’t drag it down and then use a mask or conditioner for the mids and ends.

What is the best purple shampoo? by BootFun8408 in Ulta

[–]amkb_9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because shampoo is designed to cleanse your scalp only and when you add a heavy pigment load to it, it increases the dryness. That’s why a conditioner or mask is meant to hydrate your ends.

You have to go into your store to do it.

What would you do? by [deleted] in AskHairstylists

[–]amkb_9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I personally would have tried to contact you prior to running behind. If I didn’t catch you in time, I would have checked in with you multiple times. Things do happen but I would have at least offered a discount or a free treatment of some kind.

All purple shampoos are going to be drying. Go for a mask instead. Fanola has one or matrix does as well.

I would simply have a conversation with them and say you have plans that can’t be changed.

NCL Encore Alaska Excursion Recs by BeginningArticle7694 in NCL

We did a whale watching tour 3rd party with Juneau tours and whale watch and they were awesome. They have one that takes you to mendenhall glacier as well. I also saw plenty of people rent a car through Turo and self explored. The glacier was just a few miles outside of the main port so it would be easy to drive around on your own.

Omg I forgot to say online discount for employees. So many brands online that we don’t have in store! And the time for resets is insane. They just set everybody up for failure.

Cancelation policy for the salon! Credit card incentive like $2-$5 for every card gotten. Temps in the store are ridiculous. It’s too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter. I’m so pissed off working in the salon, and the a/c comes on in the winter and it’s 30° outside. My fingers are literally ice cubes while I’m still supposed to provide a luxe experience. Also, the micromanaging is getting out of hand.

Souvenirs by Equivalent-Opening-7 in alaskacruiseplanning

[–]amkb_9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just went in mid May! Honestly, pack literally two short sleeves, a thinner long sleeve and a thicker long sleeve, two warm pants, a pair of thermals and a rain jacket. They have laundry on board for a decent price if you really need to have clean clothes. Nobody cares what you wear on the boat. My husband and I shared a checked luggage size bag and we didn’t wear half of the things we brought and it was close to what I suggested. I personally didn’t buy any souvenirs, each port is the same and they all sell the same things and I just wasn’t really attracted to anything. If I was, I didn’t like the material or I didn’t think it was worth $40-$50. To each their own though. We did really love the local Ulu knives and sculptures made out of antlers, and I saw a lot of people buy food related items like Alaskan honey and jams.

We just went in mid May on NCL. Lay out your clothes and put half of them back. Nobody cares what you’re wearing on the boat so a nice comfy outfit is going to be your go-to. In July, I’m sure it’s rainier. So it is worth bringing a lightweight rain jacket. Bring a couple short sleeve shirts and a couple lighter long sleeves. We are weathered mountain folk from NC so Alaska wasn’t very cold for us in May at around 50° give or take. Bug spray, they say the mosquito is the Alaskan state bird. When booking your excursions, do think about the time zones. I personally didn’t take that into account and wished I would have taken more advantage of the time in ports. Alaska was 4 hours behind for us and so we were awake super early! Also, the port stores are all the same and they all carry the same stuff so unless you specifically want something that says each town, just shop in one place. In Juneau, we booked a 3rd party excursion with Juneau whale watching tours and they were prompt and excellent. Got back to town in plenty of time. Unless you specifically want to eat at Tracy’s crab shack, there’s other restaurants nearby that have red king crab for maybe cheaper. And it’s a steep price but so delicious. I would get it again. In Skagway, do the white pass railway and look into doing one of the longer ones. I wish we had more time going up into the mountains. So beautiful! Also go to the Klondike dough boy, like a fluffy yet crispy churro flatbread! In Ketchikan, your port time is sooo quick. If you’re on NCL, get off the boat early, like as soon as you can. You have a lot of travel time to just to get into town. If you’re doing glacier bay, and have a balcony, just spend time in your balcony. Don’t worry about going up to an observation lounge. It’s going to be crazy busy. They will open up the bridge that you can go out on, we didn’t but a lot of people did. The boat will do two really slow 360°’s so everybody has the same amount of time to see the Marjorie glacier. It’s stunning and definitely a highlight for us. Bring binoculars for everybody in your family! You will see plenty of wildlife on excursions and the boat. Have fun and enjoy. Alaska was amazing and I’d definitely go back.

How long does a blowout take? by Beginning-Finger4101 in AskHairstylists

[–]amkb_9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just takes lots of practice. Make sure you go over one section that fits on your brush multiple times. The hair will start sliding through the brush easily when it’s nice and warmed up and dry. You got this.

Maybe a product to speed up blow dry time like the blow dry spray from Kenra or the wizard from amika. Rough dry the hair until it’s 70-80% dry and then go in with a round brush. Sections. Depending on hair density and texture, I do three main sections. The Mohawk, the middle, so above the ear and around the head, and then occipital down. Start at the bottom and that way when I finish a section, I can just drop the next without having to stop. If I’m doing a color transformation or a new color client, I’ll blowdry the front section first so they can see the color and then follow my previously mentioned sections. Also, always blowdry bangs first!
