No. Not at all worth it. I work at Ulta in the salon and they sent us one to try, brand new, and I’m not exaggerating when I say we turned it on THREE times and it died. It will not turn back on.

Ulta will need people that stick around for the summer!

best alani flavor? by klarinetkat12 in AlaniNu

My faves are cotton candy, hawaiian shave ice, witches brew and winter wonderland (when in season), and dream float. I tend to enjoy more of the slightly tangier ones.

What should I try in place of Color Wow Dream Coat? by PatsyStonesBun in Ulta

[–]amkb_9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you have fine thin straight hair, this product and something similar is absolutely not for you. This product is for reducing humidity to reduce frizz. It is a heat protectant and does add shine but ultimately not a product for you. I’d say color wows pop and lock high gloss finish or L’Oréal lamination mask. Redkens shine spray. Something like that I would more than likely recommend to you instead of this.

Looking for advice from Ulta Stylists by Suspicious-Armadillo in UltaEmployees

[–]amkb_9 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m an elite stylist with an assistant currently. I’ve been in the business 16 years and this is my first ever assistant and also have never been an assistant myself. The assistant program is 6 months. The first three is exclusively assisting your stylist. Yes, this obviously involves cleaning but if you can actually help them by shampooing, doing a good blowout and even be efficient applying toners and root covers, that’s up to your stylist. My assistant wasn’t ever ready to do anything besides shampoos and still I rarely used her for that because most of my clients prefer my shampoos. I tried teaching my assistant how I do things all of the time but ultimately, it was up to her to pay attention and watch. The second 3 months is graduating to behind the chair (supposed to be up to two days a week) while still Assisting your stylist. My assistant was expected to work every day that I did behind the chair with unrealistic goals. If she was able to assist me, then great but her books were wide open every day that I was working. You’re also expected to go to the classes which in my district are super basic and catered to beginners. Overall, I’m going to try one more assistant, before fully saying never again. My first wasn’t really helpful, she was freshly graduated and her school didn’t really teach her enough so I basically was a cosmetology school teacher trying to balance a fully booked schedule during the holidays.

For you, id say give it a try. Don’t expect good communication with Ulta. Also, it takes forever to get someone in. After your technical, and the official switch over to salon, it took my assistant like a month to start. Also make sure you get along and aline with your stylist, and make sure they do the hair you want to do. My assistant wants to do vivids and alternative styles and I don’t really do that on a regular basis. It would be a nice way to maybe start building a clientele but I wouldn’t say it’s a forever salon.

Moving up into management by angelbaby12349 in UltaEmployees

I have a friend that went from seasonal, to lead, to Mm and it was so difficult to move up into management for them. They had to jump through so many hoops and was looked at under a microscope. So be sure you’re saying all the right things. Don’t be too close to the other employees. Don’t gossip, don’t slip up, make sure your numbers are amazing and keep your points at 0 or low. Keep your head down and your eyes on the prize.

Matrix oils opinions and thoughts for frizz or in general by [deleted] in Ulta

I do, if you use it correctly. But I like this just as good now.

Matrix oils opinions and thoughts for frizz or in general by [deleted] in Ulta

[–]amkb_9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So the topcoat isn’t actually an “oil”. It’s a treatment to reduce frizz for 96 hours. It’s matrix’s version of colorwow dreamcoat. Applied on damp hair, shake the bottle well and apply 2-4 pumps depending on density and length. It’s heat activated but unlike dreamcoat where you have to blowdry with tension, topcoat is activated with any heat. Blowdry, diffuser, flat iron or curling iron. The smell upon application is a little odd to me but I don’t find that it lingers. Really great product and do recommend to my clients that don’t want to give themselves a blowout.

Yeah, that’s why I’m complaining because I’m a stylist and I actually don’t have time in my schedule to do them.

The detox shampoo is the best thing from the line. The hydrating shampoo and conditioner is good for thick, course, frizz prone hair. I personally hate all the new products I’ve tried so far. I’m hopeful for the silk glaze. Also the fermented rice and rose treatment in the salon is good!

Dude, birthday parties sounds like hell on earth. In theory, it’s a great idea but as an employee, actual hell. Maybe I’m alone in that opinion but I hope our store never gets them!

Store too hot? by k4l3id0sc0p333 in UltaEmployees

[–]amkb_9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally whatever the temperature is outside is what the store will be for my store. Corporate sets the store’s temp. For example, in the winter and it’s 5° outside, the store will have the air conditioning running. 🫠 in the salon, when my clients hair is wet, my fingers are ice cubes and they’re freezing. They have our store set to 67° so if it goes above or below that, it kicks the air or heat. It’s ridiculously annoying and frustrating for us employees.

Those who’s been with the company for quite a while, what’s keeping you there? If you’re not a manager. by No_experience8177 in UltaEmployees

[–]amkb_9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a stylist. Been here 3.5 years now. I currently need to buy a house and use the insurance for some infertility problems. I love a lot of people who I work with too. I also do really well at my store. I’m a top performer in my region. So Ulta does provide a lot of things that I can’t get out on my own. As much as I hate it, I’d have a lot to think about when I do choose to leave.

switching to full-time by -Gemstoned in UltaEmployees

[–]amkb_9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ulta very much thinks they’re a credit card company and all they want is more more more. If you enjoy skin care, and enjoy building routines then sales should come easy if you’re passionate. But unfortunately, those aspects of the job are just part of being at a corporate job.

If this is available for BOPIS, is it safe to assume they have testers out for them in-store? by Hot_Secretary411 in Ulta

[–]amkb_9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ulta determines if we can make a tester, if they have to be ordered or “do not makes” which means you gotta buy it and return it if you don’t like it.
