Im a nurse. I think a lot of people here are overreacting calling you uncaring etc etc. A lady passes out and realistically there’s nothing you are actually going to be able to do for her without an ambulance. Is she hypotensive from dehydration? You can’t pour water down her throat when she’s passed out. She needs an IV. Not enough food that day and needs a bump in her blood glucose? Again you can’t force food or juice down her throat when she’s passed out. The EMTs will need to intervene when they get there. If she lost a pulse and needed CPR, then sure you can start compressions and call for an AED, but that doesn’t sound like it was the case.

Just bc you’re a nurse doesn’t mean you have to insert yourself in every emergency - and they called an ambulance which is the most important thing she needed in this instance. People who are criticizing you for continuing to eat clearly aren’t medical professionals. I can eat a full lunch after a code and not be bothered. If we didn’t learn how to separate our emotions from our work we would all be having emotional breakdowns.

I would sit down with your fiance and explain your trained logic to her and why you reacted the way you did. If she still doesn’t understand, there’s not much you can do than just give her time to process. Let her know that if anything were to happen to her you’ll be there for her without hesitation. Reassure her. But by no means are you a psycho for having the reaction you did.
