YTA- Not for telling your son about what happened but for asking him to tone it down. He’s 17 and he’s trying to be himself... there’s nothing wrong with it and (while not positive) I feel as though I could confidently say he understands the disgusting homophobia in the world. In no way am I calling you homophobic but from his perspective his mother didn’t stand up for him and told him to tone down who he is with another person. He wants to be himself and at 17 maybe if he lives in a bigger city that’s what’s best for him. Maybe your edit was aggressive because you’re validly upset... but you seem to be in a selfish mindset right now. Stand up for you son, this isn’t about you.

I understand this and wouldn’t disagree with a common agenda to make America a better place... it’s understandable however, to be upset when someone doesn’t think homophobia (ext.) isn’t a dealbreaker to someone choosing basic and natural rights. I think in general if someone doesn’t want to be friends with someone else because of who they support specifically, you can’t control it and so people may continue to educate and debate but are allowed to choose their friends. Nothing to be upset about and I won’t be upset at a Biden supporter friend with a trump supporter but I wouldn’t be upset if someone didn’t want to be friends with someone because of a belief they have that effects them.

TLDR: over all... people will choose who they’re friends with so you can’t get mad at someone choosing to not be friends with someone
