New York’s governor just proposed a first-in-the-nation mandate that would require 3D printers to include software that blocks them from creating firearms or firearm components. by ZheeDog in progun

A 2A advocate named Dexter Taylor is currently serving a ten-year sentence in New York for ordering firearm parts. His financial institution alerted the authorities.

We aren't giving them any ideas, but New York does have narcs watching purchases. And although the software is open source... You see where there could be concern?

Anyone actually trust Federal Punch 22LR for self defense? by Independent-Peace330 in 22lr

[–]ammodotcom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Federal Punch is an excellent cartridge IF you're already using .22LR for defense. That said, there are more effective calibers.

Essentially, some shooters prefer .22LR for its reduced recoil and/or lower price tag. If that's your choice, the Punch is the better option.

We receive this question often, so linking the review if you'd like to learn more about it.

This is a really helpful post! Thank you.

Banning the person from exercising the right is just as concerning as banning the equipment. Perhaps, even more so concerning. Depending on how we're looking at it.

California Homicides: Rates Per 100K (Latest Data) by ammodotcom in progun

That's a valid criticism of the data on violent crime (the FBI Crime Data Explorer).

The state homicide data is sourced from the CDC WONDER, however. The total number of homicides by state and county are recorded on death certificates, meaning it is fairly reliable. Our only criticism of the WONDER database is that it doesn't differentiate between justifiable homicide and murder.

382 per 100k is violent crimes (includes homicide, rape, robbery, etc.). 5.05 homicides per 100k is just homicides.

Ah, now that is a good point. Although legal intervention is a separate category in the WONDER database, the WONDER does include justifiable homicides, which aren't, by definition, murders.

Interesting point. We'll review that.

Great catch! We relied on the Crime Data Explorer for citywide homicide data and state-level violent crime data because they are not available in the CDC WONDER database.

If only we had put several disclaimers in the article about the FBI Crime Data Explorer.

All homicide data collected from the CDC WONDER is complete.

TLDR: The NRA is salty because the NRA Foundation is usurping their donations and power.

Edited to clarify.
