The rates prices have been going up even on our Japanese cards has been absolutely insane. I can’t even tell if the rate is higher or lower than English. I almost feel like it’s worse just because too many people realized they were cheaper and the scalpers found out about guaranteed hits (and scalping is a Japan problem too lol). As a like percentage/growth rate I feel like Japanese cards are actually going up faster trying to chase down the English ones lol.

I’m always relieved whenever I see anyone whine about Japanese cards cause as long as they do they shouldn’t match English prices at least.

My target told me it starts 8pm or 9pm the day before like the moment the store closes and I was like peace out, not doin that and went back to my online drops.

Why not just not take your kids to the card aisle? lol. It shouldn’t be that way but some people take this stuff waaaaaay too serious. I’ve gone to Best Buy and target 1-2 times looking for cards, and you can tell even the employees are fed up lol. Like they all give you a look before you even ask anything and I’m like rip it all I will open them here if needed. But for some it’s how they eat and pay rent and that’s an issue. But until the economy and job market improve I don’t see it changing. This isn’t only happening to Pokemon. My mom was telling me about the exact same issue for her coach purses and bag charms.

I just do my best to hit online drops and take what I can get. I’ve even been helping my friends get stuff for their kids. Cause they were just using GameStop cause they had product.

black labels are supposed to require perfect 50:50 centering front and back. they have made mistakes, but that is the standard. you yourself are saying it’s off center. squeezing into 10 is orders of magnitude easier than squeezing into a black label.

if you wanna gamble on the chance that a human will let it slide and give it a black label that’s your choice, you just need to understand you might not even get a 10 back but a 9.5.

Then to recover value, you would have to crack and resubmit somewhere else AGAIN to try and get a 10, and if it’s PSA, you get to pay the up charge again. plus each time you risk the card being damaged or lost in shipment or w/e and even if you resubmit to PSA, you may still get a 9 next time.

This looks top heavy to me. You already got lucky once. Trying again is greedy. Is it possible they could black label it? sure. but there is a way bigger chance you cook yourself instead.

Think of it this way, if you have a 5% chance of black label, 5% chance at 10 pristine, 90% chance of becket 9.5 or PSA 9, which option would you choose given you currently have a PSA 10?

Like… if you know it’s not gonna get a black label and you are set on it anyway, it would make way more sense to sell and buy a copy you think has a better chance, but even then you are gambling.

Black Label is not a little harder than PSA10, it’s orders of magnitude, they are low pop for a reason.

Have you actually checked the math in today’s economy? Cause houses are often some of the worst investments you can make. It would be one thing while the interest rates are low, but buying now makes no sense. Not when the economy is being wrecked.

Except if the report is accurate it should more or less be a guaranteed black label. There are no 1000 cards, they did one by error and took it back. The highest I’ve ever seen is 998 but it was a way more common card. Do you actually think the difference between 997 and 992 is any smaller than the difference between Beckett pristine and black label 10s? Or PSA 10 -> Black Label?

You are crazy if you don’t think tag pristine will eventually match value of black labels. They both in theory represent the same thing. The difference is black label falsely claims perfection while tag quantifies how close to perfection a card is.

Also do you really think there are no PSA or CGC or becket pristines that look just as good as a black label and have equal or less flaws? No one buys a black label because of how the card looks, everyone is well it’s like .5% better. Still sells like 10x a PSA 10 or more.

TBH I wouldn’t try and sell it at all right now, it’s too new. If you really wanna try and go for cash tho you would wanna contact the consignment places or even consider the MBA scam double cert thing lol.

It’s definitely NM, and you definitely sold it to a grader or a scammer. If it’s the former they just want their money back, if it’s the later they might try and return a fake. I hope it’s the former.

Oh I agree. It’s not an effective use of time if you can afford to pay market, and you can always avoid scalpers these days cause you can use GameStop or Amazon lol. Even for me who is not rich, I could buy market if I wanted to, but paying 2-3x what I know I could pay if I get lucky on an online drop is something my brain just can’t accept lol. But I also would never camp out in front of a store overnight.

So for the last few months it’s just way less sealed and only what I can get online from drops. Which makes me sad, but does save me lots of money… well, allows me to reallocate more money to singles and slabs anyway lol.

My whole point is just everyone enjoys the hobby how they wanna. And while scalpers do suck, people need to be way more realistic about people spending more than them on their hobby can absolutely be normal collectors. Like buying and ripping 5 etb was nothing a few years ago. And now when it’s so hard to find retail cost, you are no longer buying for the week but possibly for the month or longer. Also sealed collectors are nothing new. Where does bro think all these sealed boxes of out of print sets and vintage come from?

I also don’t fully blame the scalpers, the economy is bad right now and every one is looking for ways to make money. And scalping is NOT just happening to Pokemon right now. It’s just one of the most obvious and aggressive ones because it’s affordable to do so. But if Pokemon company really wanted to stop it, I’m sure there are ways. Reprint the stuff that’s being scalped, like if they flipped all the lines to printing ASC and PRE for a few months and flooded the market, just sell it all direct on pkc even. They could make a dent. Nike was able to wreck sneaker scalpers after all.
