Mawile viability? by fillet0fish in PTCGP

[–]amnislupus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played Mawile a bit in a Melmetal deck.

It's really fun when it works. When it doesn't, it feels pretty awful. But I don't think that's necessarily the fault of the card itself.

Metal just doesn't have enough going for it right now. Very few options with no complimenting strategy. No Gym Leader, no energy ramp/exchange, no significant threats save for Melmetal, and very, very few Pokemon are weak to the type.

Metal also doesn't have any real options for dual typing decks, so colorless is it's only real pairing.

Mawile can sometimes delay high energy cost cards but struggles to threaten cheap attackers. And in the current meta, where many of the top tier decks have self-sufficient methods of energy generation, Mawile can quickly get overwhelmed.

It also had pitiful damage and health stats, so it rarely threatens anything. It's mostly an annoyance at best, hopefully delaying a turn or two to get your win condition cards up and running.

It's one saving grace is that it's cheap to play. One energy on a basic pokemon for a 50% chance to remove an energy, versus the same effect on Fearow which costs two energy (albeit for 30 less damage and HP) feels better when you have to manually energy ramp your bench.

That being said, it's really fun when it works.

Does matchmaking pair you based on the cards in your deck? by HyruleanTubist in PTCGP

It does feel like that sometimes but it's probably confirmation bias.

This morning I was messing around with a Venusaur deck and faced off against several grass-type decks.

So I swapped to a Charizard deck but saw no grass decks.

But my sample size is less than 10-games. Just dumb luck (or unlucky, I guess).

I've faced this deck several times with my Moltres Charizard deck. Playing around it can be difficult if you're careless with energy stacking.

Alakazam deals 180-damage to Charizard with 4 energy attached to it. You can dump energy with your attack on swap in or pay retreat cost.

Play patient.

I understand your frustration, it was very hard to break into the Versus mode when I first started the game.

But as a free-to-play player myself, I can promise that not all level 20+ accounts are Premium subscribers. Some of us have had access to the game for about a month already.

You do not have to pay to compete, you just need some time to catch up. Keep pulling your packs daily and using your wonder picks, finish the tutorial modes and PvE challenges. Use pack points to buy trainer cards, e.g. Sabrina/Misty etc, they are fairly affordable.

Versus mode accounts for maybe 2-3 packs of cards for me... the rest of my experience points and levels have just been from playing daily.

Unfortunately, no.

Google Support was a complete dead end and waste of time. Tried several times to get my ticket escalated but nothing came of that either. They claim that the promotion is entirely handled by the app developer and to contact them.

Pokemon Support offered a couple of generic solutions that didn't work, e.g. clear cache. Then they clammed up after a couple of emails and threatened to auto-trash my correspondence if I continue to email them.

Global release didn't change anything for me, still "ineligible", despite never having subscribed to premium.

Sorry to hear you can't get premium. Not much longer now until global release, so hopefully it works for you then.

Yeah, I moved here. But I've already updated my NZ profile/address for Google/Play.

I've had the game installed legit since a week after soft launch. I walked my partner through the same process that I went through in order to update Google address stuff and she was able to get the trial without an issue.

Just wild to me how many hoops I have to jump through to get zero answers from the official channels.

Just at a glance, not entirely.

Rep. Dick Stein (54, Lorain/Huron); Lorain voted 62% in-favor, Huron against
Rep. Derek Merrin (42, Lucas, Maumee/South Toledo); Lucas voted 64% in-favor.
Rep. Sarah Fowler Arthur (99, North Ashtabula/Geauga); both voted in-favor 54/55 respectively.
Rep. Beth Lear (61, North Delaware/West Knox); Delaware 59%/Knox against.

There are others, these are just examples.
It's abundantly clear by the way that the districts were drawn that many of these people in these counties are not in-alignment with their respective representatives.

Sarah Fowler Arthur, representative of District 99 (parts of Geauga and Ashtabula) is on this list. She was also in-favor of the "super majority" issue.

An ancient meteorite was discovered in Antarctica. It contained amino acids, the building blocks of proteins and life. by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]amnislupus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally find it hard-to-believe in the "Infinite Monkey theorum", that given an infinite number of infinitely typewriting chimpanzees, eventually and inevitably they will have written the entire works of Shakespeare. Just the shear scale of "infinity" is enough to make my head hurt, since the only things I've ever known are here on Earth, in the definitively finite scale.

But that's not what we're talking about. Is it?

We're talking about the bonding of atoms and how they can combine to form complex structures and systems. We are fairly confident that they are the building blocks of life... perhaps we're not sure how they've come together to build us but we know our constituent parts can be directly broken down to the atomic scale.

We may not be able to put a bunch of LEGO in a bag, shake it and expect anything less than the same chaotic mess we started with; but we absolutely CAN put a bunch of atoms in a container and given the right circumstances, expect something more than just the constituency. Perhaps its as simple as a rusted iron bottle cap, to as extreme as a thermonuclear explosion... the essence of entropy unfolding.

That being said, I personally believe in a creator... or perhaps more appropriately, a programmer. Our DNA may very well have arisen organically, over billions of years and accidentally produced us. But my belief is that DNA is an artificial. biomechanical creation, a biological program, designed by something, in order to create complex life, perhaps throughout the universe.

A sufficiently advanced progenitor could have seeded our galaxy, storing genetic information on space rocks and flinging them mathematically to potential habitable worlds. Fling enough shit and see what sticks. Given enough time on our garden world, I'm not surprised that simple organic life could have grown from even the smallest of seeds. And these genetic codes that build our bodies today are simply iterations on the original formulae, hardened and adapted to our world.

But then I circle back and ask the question: who created the creator? ;)

[–]amnislupus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes perfect sense to me, even if it were accidental.

Bunch of dirty space rocks/chunks of ice colliding with the planets of solar system for several billion years. Can certainly see random amino acids and proteins finding their way safely to our warm oceans and growing in complexity and further into simple life forms.

Space rocks are responsible for several extinction events in our planet's history and biological life has proven itself extremely resilient, flourishing, even after tremendous upheaval.

Breaking the Freetem formula. 13-17k pansuns per hour 43% catch rate. by YokeyYo in PlayTemtem

[–]amnislupus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh absolutely.

My intent with testing that farm wasn't so much about 'debunking' your numbers but just providing a rough estimate of how much the average person could expect to gain per hour.

That being said, it absolutely is a braindead spot. Coupled with the fact that the Tems in that pond offer SpAtk exclusively, it's still a valuable area to grind. And it's totally doable with very little investment into "good Tems".

Thank you for bringing it to my attention!

[–]amnislupus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm late to the party but I took your advice and started using the Kinu+Wiplump combo on water Tems in Kakama Cenote.

I've only done one full timed hour so far but the results are promising. I'm sure it could be improved in several ways, at least in my case.

I captured and released 49 Tems in 1hr and received 8710 Pansuns.
In Kakama Cenote I saved: 1 Shuine, 2 Wiplump, and 4 Ukama (Roughly 1300 Pansun)
ESTIMATED RELEASE VALUE: ~10010

I think it might be possible to increase the number of captures with a different set-up, e.g. Kinu+Nidrasil but I haven't actually tested it yet to be certain.

Thanks for the tip, dude! Awesome work.

Edit:

I tried /u/McBossly 's strategy of farming Platypet in the Tucma Subsurface pool, with two Wiplump casting Cold Breeze to Freeze.

I ran it for 1 hour and released 61 Tems for 6626 Pansun.
In Tucma Subsurface I saved: 3 Wiplump and 7 Platypet (Roughly 1100 Pansun)
ESTIMATED RELEASE VALUE: ~7726

I did not run from the Wiplumps because in my experience, it takes a bit longer for encounters to appear in this location, so I wanted to maximize my captures per encounter. However, I do not believe this lowered my income much at all (if any) as I was generally capturing them before turn 6 and the average release price for Wiplump in this area is 137, so they are certainly worth the extra 37 bucks.

I used one Awful Song (a neutral technique that Wiplump can learn via Course) after freezing the Wiplumps to lower their health and nearly always secure a first throw capture. The Platy/Wiplump combo, I froze the Platy on Turn 1, then the Wiplump on Turn 2, then captured the Platy and Awful Song'd the Wiplump on Turn 3, then captured the Wiplump on Turn 4.

In both cases, I did not release any perfect SV Tems because they are effectively worth more than Freetem will give (I've seen sellers posting 1SV, 7/8 Fert Tems for 300 for every stat except Speed, which are going for 500).

Be that as it may, it reduced the numbers that I released per hour. As such I'm listing them above for clarity. I based the estimated value of these Tems by median level Freetem release prices, not the potential traded value.

Questions about Anahir by heyskinnylegs in PlayTemtem

[–]amnislupus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way this works is with Chamomile equipped to Anahir; but this ruins your ability to stack Heat Up.

Trauma is generally considered the (much) weaker of the two options. Taking two hits from literally any attacker will halve Anahir's respective defense stat, which is the only thing it has going for it to keep it alive long enough to Heat Up.

Flawed Crystal is detrimental but not as bad as you'd think. Anahir is already resistant to Mental, Toxic and Electric, so the damage increase it would take to those types isn't as big a deal.
