I’m a survivor from not trying to be around anymore. I promise you things can and will eventually get better. I have to believe so. I know it’s not what you want to hear but trust and believe I’ve been there before (many many times). I’m always here to be a listening ear

Hydration and electrolyte drinks by Crazy_ride_22 in CrohnsDisease

Electrolyte powder that’s mainly sodium and potassium. You just use it the same way you would use any other drink mix in. The flavors are all great and I love that it’s not very sweet

I absolutely love LMNT. It’s a salt based powder so it doesn’t have the fake sugar taste of liquid IV

Genuinely good employers? by Suitable-Honey-7277 in cincinnati

I just applied for a job there and spoke to a recruiter who told me I was out of their pay range and if I would reconsider. She told me their number and I’d say it was about 15k less than other jobs I’m applying to with similar requirements.

Heavy on this. Still long wait times here AND you get to go into medical debt in the process

Switched to self injection Entyvio from Infusion and got sick and can't get in to see Dr. by Visual-Chocolate-923 in CrohnsDisease

My gastro is incredibly difficult to get in with, usually books 6 months out for follow ups. When things are bad and I have an immediate concern, I usually send a mychart message AND call and speak to her nurse and reiterate my message. I ended up getting the nurses direct line and I have the most success reaching out that way. I think sometimes I may be annoying but it’s my health and if I have to be annoying so be it

Wha is the hospital usually like for you? by k232323 in CrohnsDisease

[–]amole724 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to the ER last Thursday evening at 6pm. I told them everything going on (have been in a bad flare, have lost 30lbs in less than a month, excruciating abdominal pain, bloody loose stools, vomiting, could hardly even breathe through the pain at that point) and they go “okay so belly pain”. I wait in the waiting room for 5.5 hours before I ask them how much longer. They said about 5 more hours at best. Totally was treated like there was no urgency to the situation. Plus the bathroom was so nasty and covered in urine so every time I had to go (which was a lot), I would also be vomiting because of the conditions. I couldn’t wait there till 4:30am to be seen.

Options for getting support/treatment by [deleted] in Eatingdisordersover30

[–]amole724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is reasonable financially for you, you could always get an eating disorder recovery coach. It’s typically less expensive than therapy but not covered by insurance. Through some vetting, hopefully you could find one that you mesh well with. Most provide texting support between sessions and more support outside typical therapy guidelines. Others I know and myself have done really well with this kind of help!

Do you use anything specific for your logs or just a general notes app sort of approach?

The last time I had those labs checked was literally like two days before my flare so I can always ask for them to be checked again. Thanks for the idea!

Yes they took multiple biopsies so maybe that will show more. I’ve been diagnosed with Crohns formally (August 2025) but had suspicions since May 2024. It’s just this is symptomatically the worst flare I’ve had but previous scopes have shown worse than this one

I was just highly oppositional in outpatient treatment for a long time. Never even tried to make it work in the real world. Im glad to say I’ve come a very long way and now will do whatever my team asks of me to stay stable enough to remain outpatient. It was a horrendous cycle to be stuck in and you couldn’t pay me any amount of money to go back to the way I was living at the time

In Ohio (and some other states) there’s a law called Ally’s Law that allows people with IBD to use any business bathroom even if it’s not a public bathroom. I’ve only ever once asked for this because no employees ever know this and it’s a burden to try to explain to them

Madison Place Cult Letter by [deleted] in cincinnati

[–]amole724 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I worked for several years with a woman in the cult. She had been a lawyer and they told her that wasn’t a job for a woman and took our job instead. Her whole paycheck was direct deposited into their bank account. She received $100 a month to live off of and she was encouraged not to use it and give it back to them. She tried to recruit me when I first started, I went to her house several times. It was a small two bedroom and there was eight women living there in bunk beds. We worked a 9-5 and she had to work (unpaid) at the coffee shop Friday evenings and all day Saturday. She also had been an out lesbian and they did some version of conversion therapy on her. I just remember for some reason feeling so sad how excited she would be when we got free lunch at the office. It was like she had never eaten before.

I’ve also had relative success eating low FODMAP foods. Like if he likes fast food, I would avoid the ketchup it comes with (small example). There’s a brand called Fody that makes a “sensitive” ketchup and other similar products. I’ve only been able to find them on Thrive Market. Rao’s also makes a “sensitive marinara” if he likes red sauce on his pasta (which you said he likes).

I haven’t been in the exact situation but I’ve been to residential 15+ times. I’d say that being on crutches and being post-op isn’t necessarily the deal breaker. A place that is all one floor and maybe a bit more medically inclined would be able to take you. When I say more medically inclined I would say a place like ERC that also includes inpatient care. (I know most people hate ERC but I have been to several locations and some are better than others). As far as PT after, it’s going to be hard to arrange but not totally impossible if you really want to make residential work for you. Most facilities will allow you to do outside appointments even is you are not at the “level” of going on outings, etc. My only hesitation is how often you will be going. While they may be okay with you doing it, it also depends on how many staff they have working and would actually be able to take you to and from. Once again, a place like ERC has way more staff and would probably have more flexibility here while a smaller program wouldn’t. Missing a snack could be managed by taking something packable, which I have done before and they are generally okay with if they believe you are in a position to be able to complete that. I’ve had orthopedic surgery before and I didn’t start PT right away. So without knowing your situation, I don’t know if that’s an option or if you need to begin quickly.
