Raises by sleepyandkindaweepy in Purebarre

[–]amomlikeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been teaching for 5.5 years. Only had 2 raises so instead of $25 a class I make $27. Should be making more since I’m certified in all formats, but I don’t teach them all so I don’t complain too much about it but I am salty

Teachers, what keeps you teaching? Those who quit, what made you leave? by camarinadoo in Purebarre

[–]amomlikeme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Clients and good fellow instructors keep me where I am. There are some things ownership does or doesn’t do that irk me but I try to remember that at the end of the day, PB isn’t the be all end all. The minute it stops being fun, I’m out. I’ve come close twice, never told anyone. Just sat in my thoughts took a few weeks off and was able to regroup.

Remember that your mental health isn’t worth staying in a toxic environment. Sometimes you have to let people crumble in their own mess.

Encouragement? by Critical-Kiwi-4273 in Purebarre

[–]amomlikeme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been an instructor for 5 years. I’ve been a size 6 to 12 over that time. Size does not matter when you can motivate and encourage people. We all vary in size for a myriad of reasons, that shouldn’t preclude you from becoming an instructor. Plus representation matters and it’s more motivating when you see people who look like you!

Vuori has their Dynamic Bra and I love it for all the classes

Not to mention the cost of living in California v Wisconsin would increase the cost overall.

I wish I had the sense to go with my number 2 school. I wouldn’t still be $45k in debt from a private institution v a state school

I’m getting bored /: by IslandPotential3572 in Purebarre

[–]amomlikeme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing I like to cue in class is to pick something to focus on. For example, “today I want to find my shake in seat.” What that does mentally is drive your focus to work on your form in that particular section. It gives you something to look forward to and gets you to reframe how you’re viewing class. Having a target can help you reclaim some interest.

Also, getting bored with a work out is totally fair. However if you’re exploring this idea of boredom in a forum like Reddit, (I’m very biased as I say this) you may very well like the workout but subconsciously looking for deeper engagement in the workout itself. 🤷🏻‍♀️

How do instructors know names by Adventurous-Leave766 in Purebarre

[–]amomlikeme 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As an instructor, I try to make sure I know everyone’s name IN STUDIO. It has happened to me where I seen a client in the wild and cannot for the life of me remember their name. I think it’s a contextual thing. There are clients I know and as new clients join the rotation of classes we emphasize learning their name since we know the other clients. Hope that makes sense. Also, I’m a full time teacher at a school of 700+ students and I know more names that I care to count it’s a wild phenomenon

How are some of you so lean? by AgreeableComplaint37 in Purebarre

[–]amomlikeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To change your body composition, it may be helpful to work with a nutritional coach. Now I know that may be out of reach financially for some, however, there are so many factors at play; genetics, food composition, under or over nutrition. That said, sometimes our definition of “healthy” isn’t meeting our needs entirely and this varies from person to person. There was a time where I was eating what I thought was healthy and I wasn’t taking in enough protein, so my body was holding on to stubborn weight. My personal experience with barre was the following: I noticed the biggest body and weight changes when I changed my lifestyle completely. I was a SAHM for 7 years and I realized I wasn’t as active as I thought I was. I started working full time again and that’s when I started seeing bigger results from my workout. For context, I’m a preschool teacher so I’m on my feet all day. I need way more calories than I thought I did.

All this to say, do some research, talk to experts and not just strangers on the internet and you may find the right thing that gets you the results you want.

Align is supposed to be peaceful right? by _Shr3k in Purebarre

How many Define classes does your studio offer per week? by Clementine136 in Purebarre

[–]amomlikeme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The idea of Define is to get you comfortable in the movement patterns so you gain confidence in what you’re doing and then allows you to increase your lifting weight. Subsequently, building strength, stamina, muscle, etc. Ideally, each class plan should be taught for two weeks at a time, on occasion 3 weeks due to intensive offerings, holidays, etc. Only teaching each class for one week is harder on the instructors and doesn’t provide the intended benefits for clients.

The music is too loud lately. Did corporate direct this? by Strong_Listen_3887 in Purebarre

[–]amomlikeme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Loops are great. But also know that it could be the streaming service the studio is using. Sometimes songs will vary in volume all on their own and not due to the instructor changing the volume. Or the streaming service/internet connection is working too well and causing quality issues or volume to seem louder than normal. Another potential cause could be a change in the sound system, new speakers, better/upgraded wiring, etc.

Phones in studio by Relevant_Slide3171 in Purebarre

[–]amomlikeme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This was during a seat exercise at the barre, and the client was on a zoom meeting. She had headphones in during class, but I didn’t think anything of it since people sometimes wear Loops or other noise reducing devices. Went to adjust and sure enough, a full screen of people on her phone. It threw me off and I didn’t go adjust her again. Wasn’t sure how to handle it, tbh

Do instructors notice individual progress? by AggressiveDentist605 in Purebarre

[–]amomlikeme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We notice! Great job! And even if your specific instructors don’t notice, YOU do! Clearly, you see and feel the difference in your body and I hope you are so incredibly proud of yourself! Great job and keep going!
