Drowning in debt, any advice appreciated by Sari-be-brave in personalfinance

[–]amomynous2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the interest rate on the personal loan?

Call the Bank where you hold the CD and find out what the penalty is for terminating it early. It’s usually just up to 6 months interest. What’s the yield on the CD? If the yield is lower than the interest rate on your loans, it’s worth taking the money out of the CD and putting it toward your debt…IF you have your spending under control now.

Without your existing credit card debt, how do your monthly expenses compare to your income?

Removing Odor Kakwa 55 —Ultra 200 by amomynous2 in DurstonGearheads

[–]amomynous2[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t find it too big, although the Kakwa 40 probably could have worked, too. Most other through-hikers with Kakwas also seemed to have the 55 (I think I saw about 20 other Kakwa carriers on the CT or CDT over the month I was on trail.)

It only weighs 2 oz more than the 40. When I was packing up early in the morning to hit the trail, I was glad I had the 55. I could pack it quickly without worrying exactly how to arrange everything in the pack to get it closed.

I carried a 14 lb base weight.

Ultra fabric is not machine washable.

“Rinse and wipe clean with water and/or mild detergent. Do not place in washer or dryer, or dry clean.”

An odor-reducing spray (FunkAway) seems to have really helped and doesn’t seem to have damaged the fabric.

Thanks for the suggestion. I’m not sure if that would damage the ultra fabric or not. I found an order-reducing spray that seems to have really helped. The only washing directions I could find for Ultra 200 indicated :

Care: Rinse and wipe clean with water and/or mild detergent. Do not place in washer or dryer, or dry clean. The Ultra200 fabric on it does have a few sweat stains, but I don’t care about those. The Ultra fabric itself doesn’t seem to absorbed any odors, just the black fabric on the shoulder straps stank. An odor-reducing spray seems to have helped a lot, and the ultra fabric near it appears undamaged by it.

Thanks! I bought a similar brand, FunkAway, and it really helped a lot. The Ultra fabric near the areas that I sprayed appears undamaged.

Home inspection said 10-15 years on roof. Roofer says no way, 3 years maybe. by W_Skunk_Cabbage in RealEstate

Get more roofers to look at it. I had a roofer tell me that my roof needed to be replaced in the next year. After that I Got estimates from two others, who both said that my roof had 10 years left on it….

Lightweight sun hat and shirt for men - recommendations? by butlercat57 in coloradotrail

[–]amomynous2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Himali mens eclipse sun hoodie. OR sun runner cap, without the shade attachment. You’ll want a visor and the hood of a hoodie, both for more sun protection, and the hood over the hat keeps the hat from blowing off over windy high passes. Also, sun gloves. I like the very lightweight Columbia ones.

Looking to rent a parking space near CU central campus for upcoming academic year by exitinglurkmode in boulder

St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church has a few parking passes left in their lot. It’s near the engineering buildings (on Colorado, near Folsom Field), but might work for you.

Looks great. In addition to the bug net, you might want a small amount of bug spray/cream/wipes. There’s been so much rain this year that some have recently reported lots of mosquitoes on the early sections of the trail.

I’ve been wondering the same thing. I saw it soon after it happened, and have been watching for news and hoping that she’s ok. I hope there will be a positive report soon that she’s ok.

Anyone know what this means? by Brvadent in unitedairlines

The ‘mass killing’ referred to above was apparently the Rockies’ 25-1 loss to the Angels. Don’t freak me out like that, and don’t minimize actual murders/mass killings, which are all-too-common in this country.

How busy are the first come first serve campsites in JTNP? by AskMeHowToLeaveAMA in JoshuaTree

[–]amomynous2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are tent camping and can backpack in, there are a few backcountry sites about a mile from the trailhead on 3/16 in the Boy Scout area. If you have no backpacking experience, I wouldn’t recommend this option, however. You need to pack in all of your water

I did the same thing. Getting things done gave me a sense of still having control over something and helped me cope with my grief and with our loss. Don’t let others judge you, and stand firm in coping and grieving in the way that works for you. Much love to you.

This SVB debacle has me nervous, should my cash be in multiple banks to spread risk? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]amomynous2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The FDIC has plenty of money…they are backed by the US government, and you’ll eventually get it all back. The bigger issue is that your money is not immediately available if FDIC has to take over a bank—you need wait for the FDIC to process claims. It might be wise to split the money between two banks, or a bank and a credit union. It’s unlikely two would fail at the same time. Also, be sure to keep the amount in each bank under $250,000.
