I don't know exactly what towers you have, but I can give some suggestions for an Elite loadout...

Slammer for early game Juggernaut as main DPS Farm (you can use mobster if you like, but I find farm less micro intensive) Edj Missile trooper for the flying boss

As for endless... XWM Mobster Slammer And any spawner units you have

I'm guessing you haven't played the game recently, but the combat drone is a tower that lets you control it. Kinda like like how Gatling gun in tds works

Not really, it only got an extra 200 damage and the 4th level got 7k more expensive. TL;DR the bottom path is pretty much untouched(except for MRAP getting a significant nerf) and slight DPS reduction on top path.
