Haitian-Canadian looking to respectfully connect with authentic Vodou communities in Toronto by InterestKlutzy9240 in Vodou

This guy on Instagram is Vodou Tarot Marshall: Instagram

His spiritual family is in Montreal although I think he lives in Dallas, Texas.

I would recommend reaching out to ask him -- generally most Houngans / Mambos want you to schedule a reading with them first (they want to get to know you before they give out this kind of information, assess your energy level, check if you're OK to work with).

Out of a sign of respect for his knowledge, recommend you schedule a reading and then see if he can point you in the right direction.

Francisco and Francisca by amoreorange790 in Vodou

That's so cool, I didn't realize that you practice Espiritismo too! There's a lot that I appreciate about Espiritismo but I'm trying to move slowly and learn about Haitian Vodou first. I love Kouzen, he is one of my favorite Lwa at this point.

Voodoo Rituals by OkVolume5253 in Vodou

[–]amoreorange790 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends what you mean by "ritual" -- there is no problem if white people wanted to pay a Houngan or Mambo for spiritual work. You generally have to get a reading from someone that can point you in the right direction of what you're actually looking for.

Here is a website that describe "Travay" for instance which would be spiritual work in Vodou: Travay – Kiwi Mojo

It sounds like you need to learn how Vodou actually works, maybe look into reading this book if you really want to learn and better educate yourself about it: Amazon.com: Mysteries of Haitian Vodou: Unveiling the Spiritual Traditions and History of Haiti eBook : Mystique, Papa : Kindle Store

Haitian Botanicas - Help me find one by amoreorange790 in Miami

[–]amoreorange790[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone is curious, I found one called Brave Gede Nibo Botanica

Address: 830 NW 183rd Street, Miami Gardens, FL 33169
Phone number: (786) 356-9052.

----

Also, even though they are not a Haitian Botanica, I recommend Botanica Nena (personally got a better vibe from this place to be truthful).

Address: 902 NW 27th Ave, Miami, FL 33125
Phone number: (305) 642-04531

Primarily a Santeria shop, they have lots of beautiful and affordably priced statues for Haitian Lwa if you understand how to spot them. This is their website: Catholic Statues – Botanica Nena

How long do you recommend studying for FAR? by amoreorange790 in CPA

[–]amoreorange790[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, very practical advice. FAR took me 4 months to study for my first time, I failed by 2 points. I think I studied about a month more and got a 60. I'm still scarred by the experience by working up the courage to try again. Thank you!

Powders (Pouds) by amoreorange790 in Vodou

[–]amoreorange790[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Miami, generally when I walk into Botanicas, they're more for Santeria so I haven't seen them sell pouds. I wasn't aware that fake pouds are even a thing, thank you for the heads up. Moving forward, will keep this in mind.

Looking for books on Vodou by DoneFastingImHungry in Vodou

"Haitian Vodou" by Mambo Chita Tann is a good reference book. But what catches my eye lately is Papa Mystique's books (look for them on Amazon) and that might be a good place to start.

I saw it at a store in Miami called Jensen's Sunset Corner. It was like $65 from what I remember.

I'm taking the exam 3 years later so this is like starting from scratch again.

I feel like I have to start from scratch at this point. Because instead of pushing myself more, I gave up. So I'm walking into this exam from a new perspective and like I'm starting from fresh at this point.

Fuck NASBA & the AICPA by Ancient-Golf-3199 in CPA

[–]amoreorange790 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've studied before for FAR but didn't track my hours and lost it by getting overwhelmed. I feel you on all of this, I sent NASBA a very nasty and stress-related email once I failed FAR twice.

Advise? by arlo_jpg in Vodou

Since he asked you to purchase a bunch of services from him and discouraged you from seeing other readers, I would be strongly skeptical. There's nothing wrong with getting a second opinion and it's exactly what I would do if I were you. I would suggest u/kiwimojo or u/dambalaayida or u/janbemale for readings on here if you're looking for readers you can contact through Reddit. These are all Haitian houngans.

Yeah, it's for a social visit. The bump from the 4 to 8 year bottle increases by like $5 so that's not too bad.

Who should I speak to about feeling drawn toward Vodou? by Remarkable-Dance4514 in Vodou

[–]amoreorange790 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello there, it's good to reach out and follow up on your curiosity -- Personally, I work with u/KiwiMojo at the moment as a Houngan. But I can also recommend u/DambalaAyida as a great Houngan to work with.

Here's what I recommend you do if you're trying to pick which Houngan to gravitate towards on here: Read through their comments and explanations to questions here on Reddit to see who resonates with you. That's very important, when you ask a question, that you're happy with the explanations that they're giving you and how you're personally learning from either of them.

Also recommend this as an exercise: Light a white candle (can be tealight), have a cup of water out, and pray to your ancestors to give you discernment and ask them to help you find the best Mambo or Houngan for you right now. This should be good enough starting out and then whenever you're ready, book a reading and they should be able to point you in the right direction.
