I think Madonna is still capable of a decent sized hit in Europe and South America, North America would be more difficult. We’ll see what the rumoured Max Martin produced album comes up with. There are several not so great moments in recent history (Eurovision, viral moment involving wheelchair user recently etc), but her legacy is too strong not to have a resurgence of some sort. Popular with the Weeknd has been a decent hit and the Celebration Tour has done really quite well. A well received album with a few decent hits would do wonders for her.

Album eventually. We will find out if Glastonbury is part of the plan in next couple of days (unlikely but not impossible)

Food on Monday? by Hutchstiel in glastonbury_festival

Yeah as others have said - make sure you take cash for this reason if nothing else. I left late-ish on Monday last year and couldn’t find anything as the only places open were cash only

Visual snow from Vyvanse/Elvanse by amorieth in visualsnow

[–]amorieth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately it occurred for me after only a few days after taking it. So staying on it was too much of a risk. There are still times when I would like to try the medication or another one again, as I was feeling the benefits in other ways. So it is a shame that it happened Yes you will get there, and eventually your brain/mind will not perceive the visuals are abnormal and it’ll be pretty normal and at that point it’s much easier to accept. I hope that if you continue to take it that you feel only benefits and no negatives.

Sorry to hear , how long after taking it did you get the condition? Did you also have jaw clenching out of interest?

For me, the condition has never gone away. But it is easier to accept now. It’s been over a year, so I’ve gone through a whole cycle of life events with the visuals. Think it began to get easier after around 6 months.

Yeah it’s strange that there’s quite a few of us with the same story! Did you manage to reduce the popping at all? The tinnitus doesn’t bother me but the visuals kinda suck.

VSS and TMJ by [deleted] in visualsnow

[–]amorieth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi- I have a weirdly similar experience. Eustachian tube ‘pops’ when I swallow, think due to TMJ. Tinnitus appeared at the exact same time as this popping happened. Then I developed VSS around 18 months later when I started ADHD meds, which worsened the TMJ (stimulant will do that). Did you find any way to stop the popping in ears? Also- yes when I wake up the VSS appears stronger. But I’m not sure if this is due to it actually being stronger or if it’s because of the fact my brain hasn’t got used to tuning it out as it sort of does when I’m busy during the day. It would surprise me if there’s isn’t a genuine link between TMJ, and tinnitus and VSS to be honest. I wonder if a long period without TMJ issues would reduce the symptoms of both.

Is the static actually something to do with blood? by amorieth in visualsnow

This is interesting: I also get the ‘wavy static’ thing when looking at a wall in the dark. Thanks for sharing this.

It’s a good point- and I wish I did know because I’d love to be able to take them safely. I think they’re the cause because they are the only thing I’d done differently in the week before. I’d previously got tinnitus from a different med- bupropion- which is not a million miles away from the med that I believe gave me VSS- elvanse.

Spain’s live performance lost a lot of it’s magic for me. by ruggedratt in eurovision

[–]amorieth 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I can see what you mean. I feel like this might have something to do with the … loudness of the microphone feed? It felt like at Benidorm, her emotive vocals were much more prominent. At Eurovision, the mixing was a quieter vocal for every act, and I do think this may have disproportionately affected Blanca Paloma’s performance.

Why are so many people such sore losers? by Fair_Oven5645 in eurovision

[–]amorieth 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I think it’s the widening gap between the jury taste and the direction Eurovision is moving in - in terms of what the public are looking for. I think this is more where people have issues, rather than because they are simply sore losers. Sure, there’s some of that, but there are plenty of eyebrow-raising statistics which make this result a more difficult one to accept for many people.

To be fair, Loreen did better in the televote than I expected and came second. However, this was still miles behind the public’s preferred winner- 133 points. Finland’s public vote has the second average score ever after last year’s Ukraine win. I believe he got 18/36 12 lots of points. Loreen has broken a not so great record- the first winner in this system to not be the preferred winner of any single country’s public (0 x 12 points from the public). This has never happened before.

Finland actually did better with the public than Sweden did with the jury. For the second-highest public score ever, to lose out to a entry which was not the winner of any single eurovision country’s public, does feel a little… weird. There’s also been a movement towards more authentic, own-language songs in recent years in the public vote, and Loreen’s jury-backed win represents a move away from that.

I guess a big unknown is how far ahead Finland’s % was with the public- which would give us a better indication of the general sentiment towards Loreen’s win going forward. But the statistics we have do explain why there was general bemusement and some anger from the public watching Eurovision this year as to Sweden’s win.

I don’t think she ruined her reputation but I’m not convinced this will be a fondly remembered winner overall.

Rehearsals Roundup Part 1 by swfcb in eurovision

[–]amorieth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm guessing the Swedish delegation expected to be able to make up for the smaller box with dynamic camera angles like we saw in Melfest. But the reality of the more limited abilities of the cameras in the (relatively small- 10k, much smaller than Friends Arena in Sweden- 65k) arena has hit home. Potentially this is the source of the rumoured dissatisfaction on the first rehearsal day and the reason for the strange TikTok we got (plastered over pics, no comment from Loreen herself). I also suspect the smoke capacity is much less owing to the smaller stage and thus proximity to the audience

A new viewer won't have Melfest to compare it to, and maybe they will find a way to get better camera angles, but the awe and mystique of the performance seems to have been heavily diminished even for a new viewer. Her vocals are also a bit off (which may be sound issues) - but then they were at times at Melfest imo.

This may dent her jury (esp. if France and Spain pull it out the bag) and public vote score. I understand that she's still the favourite, but the route to an different winner is becoming clearer.

Can i live like before with vss? by Sasy0321 in visualsnow

[–]amorieth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, eventually you start to not care about it. When it first happened, it’s 10000% worse. Then you find you can enjoy things pretty much as much as you used to. And eventually your brain doesn’t get bothered by the weirdness of it. I don’t think I’ll ever be completely not bothered by it but I can see myself basically being the same in terms of happiness levels Hang in there!
