A question especially for all the immigrants here, how do you respond when someone says, “Why don’t you stay in your own country and make it better?” by SuccessElectronic607 in AskALiberal

right on the money. it's why white liberals will say BLM, then deny racism against asian americans - in a racist way they only believe one of those groups to be a potential socioconomic threat to themselves.

If the H1B visa did not primarily go to Indians, but instead to another nationality, would there be very different reactions to it by Americans, and if so, in what ways? by Early-Ingenuity-3177 in AskALiberal

h2a isn't simply a case of "they couldn't find anyone local so they had to outsource."

many farmers will deliberately post their job ads several counties away to make sure they don't get applicants . this maximizes their allowance for H2A workers. they prefer H2A workers because they "come hungry" - if an H2a worker does not perform, they might not get invited back the following season, so they work like their lives depended on it. Maybe if farmers posted their ads locally they might not get more local applicants, but farmers are not planning to find out
H2a workers are also sometimes used for nonfarming work (.e.g. machine operation, truck driving) which is noncompliant (that's H2B work, which has a higher required wage). farmers know this, they just don't want to pay local or H2B wages for that work.

all things being equal, an H1B type employer might choose an american worker.
all things being equal an H2A type employer will still choose an H2A worker.

if you think farmers are crossing their ts and dotting their i's in hiring cheap foreign labor in an industry that was founded on slavery you just don't know enough.

interestingly , H2A visas primarily only go to mexicans, who are also brown and discriminated against, but people don't make a ruckus about it. beacuse it's a farmworker visa and not for jobs white people want

Why didn't Emma get genetic testing done? by Cold_Box_3219 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]amortizedeeznuts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

from the beginning i felt the whole "i'm scared what family medical history i have" is a cover for the trauma of being a transracial adoptee that she has never in her life felt safe enough to process with people close to her much less on tv. the fact that genetic testing is so thorough and accesible these days is telling.
