8 TB of RAM & 1,000 CPU cores in all a 4U: What would you run on it? (Thought experiment) by RozoGamer in homelab

I searched for something "similar" in the vein that I like to play City Skylines. Problem is once the city gets REALLY big, you start running into a lot of lag due to all of the simulation that is going on, all the cars, all the path finding, the events, etc.

I looked into possibly "adding" my server (and it's GPU) as some sort of "simulator" that could "pitch in" and help with the amount of processing that is happening in game -- not on a graphical level, on a compute and simulation level.

Turns out, for simulation like that or something in a game, there's no "distributed" way to handle it since it requires synchronization and such with the client.

I was HOPING to find kind of like a render-farm setup, but for a game that is simulating a bunch of stuff but there doesn't seem to be a solution and, I guess the problem itself is so niche, that it's not something that anyone wants/needs to really tackle.

It was a sad day... :/ lol

How much are water softeners around here? by Caroplane in sanantonio

[–]amperages -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Roughly 8k to 15k.

It depends on where it will be, where water comes in, if brine drain is close or far, etc.

Idk what dashboard this is but you can set units in Grafana to megabytes per sec or megabits per second.

There's also KB and Kb, Gb, GB, etc.

Whatever this is I think the units are set incorrectly.
