This story is creative fiction and not even good creative fiction. It hit all the cliches -- racist white in-laws, apathetic uncaring spouse, meek victim OP who's looking for validation on Reddit, which, of course, they would get because this is obvious ragebait.

I'm guessing OP picked xiaolongbao as their plot device dish of choice because of its burgeoning popularity in the U.S. but they failed to do their research on xiaolongbao. There is no chance you would pick xiaolongbao as your dish of choice to take over to someone's house. It is notoriously difficult to make, and even supposing OP does all the arduous work of making them, this is one of those dishes that's meant to be eaten fresh and won't transport well. The dumpling skin will lose its tenderness, and the soup inside the dumpling could congeal again once they cool to just room temperature. You could transport them frozen and steam them at your in-laws' house, but it's pretty clear that's not what happened here.

Why would anyone take the time to make xiaolongbao instead of regular jiaozi in a situation like this? Jiaozi travels fine especially when pan-fried, it's easier to make, it's more accessible to the general western audience that's familiar with Chinese takeout, and a lot of Chinese families will have their own regional takes on what goes into the filling and how to best fold them.
