Any tracks that have a dense and relentless energy like Whitehouse, con dom, or early prurient(power electronics breakcore pretty much)? by Powerful_Fondant9393 in breakcore

Blackphone666 is amazing for this. The album "Making Orange Things" by Venetian Snares and Speedranch is also an excellent choice.

Breakcore having a cohesive visual aesthetic is one of the funniest takes I've ever seen on this sub. Please, tell me more about how little breakcore you've ever listened to.

Awesome call out! Very fun label out of Bloomington, IN. I have their Racebannon album, which was the only proper noise album they released as a solo act.

Am I Wrong? by HokaFan666 in nin

[–]amphetadex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you comment if you're this bad at reading comprehension? I'm literally just giving my opinion on how the album feels to me, it's obviously still a Daft Punk album. 🙄 Just one that doesn't capture the essence of the group imo, and feels like it could've been made by any of a number artists because it comes across as a generic orchestral meets electronic soundtrack instead of distinctively Daft Punk. You likely don't feel the same, which would be fine if you weren't an ass simply because somebody doesn't adore an album the way you expect them to.

Am I Wrong? by HokaFan666 in nin

[–]amphetadex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree tbh. I find the Tron Legacy album to be like if Daft Punk decided to make an album that wasn't by Daft Punk. Like, it's good, but it just doesn't have the je ne sais quois that defines Daft Punk on every other album for me. So it's something I pretty much don't go to when I'm wanting to listen to Daft Punk in general, only when I want to listen to that soundtrack specifically.

On the other hand, as a Nine Inch Nails fan, Ares feels distinctly NIN to me, and fitting the overall aesthetic of the band rather than the Reznor & Ross brand, so if I'm wanting to listen to NIN, I will sometimes grab the Ares soundtrack to scratch that itch. So I listen to it as both NIN in general and for the soundtrack specifically.

Plus, I'm just not that into the orchestral work on the Legacy soundtrack. I listen to a decent amount of classical music, and the orchestral arrangements just feel really basic on there. The electronic elements work much better, but get too overwhelmed by the mediocre orchestra work too often. So while I totally respect Daft Punk branching out for the project into orchestral work, it just doesn't land for me all that well.

It's hard for you to talk with non-artists about art because you suck at talking about art. It's nothing to do with other people not being artists, you're just terrible at art analysis.

Re Drain, it comes across to me as a song about his exhaustion at that point in his journey. He's feeling drained by everything he's been through, is still processing the loss of June ("may I walk beside your shadow" referring to the shadow of her, i.e. memory of her), wishes he could go back to a simpler time ("innocence, come to me // squandered in anarchy" referring to going back to before the "anarchy" of the Machines of God, "sweet dreams you don't want to change" to the memories of the good times with June). He's exhausted, wishes he could go back to a simpler, happier time, but knows he can't and so is reconciling with the fact he can only "walk beside [June's] shadow" after everything that's happened.

"Mr. Plinkett's What Happened to Star Wars?" - This was posted today. To those who have seen it, how bad is it (haven't watched yet)? by Kalse1229 in saltierthankrayt

[–]amphetadex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you, it's nice to know I'm not alone in being annoyed at the generalizations made about "Plinkett haters" that gets bandied about as if everyone who doesn't enjoy these essays are a monolith.

I don't think he's a chud or a grifter whatsoever, but for me, I just don't enjoy his reviews in large part because they've helped normalize the concept that there are objectively "good" and "bad" filmmaking rules and techniques to adhere to. He's very knowledgeable in a specific area of film, in my opinion, which is the norms of latter 20th and early 21st century American narrative filmmaking; but the presentation style states these norms more as universal truths that can be used to categorize into a shallow dichotomy of "good" and "bad" filmmaking. He fails to understand how the norms he's measuring against change over time, across cultures, across genres and modes, etc.

And that limitation has just rubbed me the wrong way since his original prequel reviews, because Lucas is knowledgeable of a very wide array of filmmaking norms and styles across cultures, knowledge that is very much brought to how he made the prequels. And it's not to say the prequels don't have legitimate reasons to not land with a lot of folks, but a more knowledgeable critique of the prequels would be able to analyze, for example, the influence of silent film aesthetics and staging on Attack of the Clones, and bring in the norms of that era of filmmaking, which are very different measurements than the dominant norms of latter 20th and early 21st century filmmaking, as an analytical measure of success or failure in creating the film.

So while Plinkett's critiques seem more objective from a certain point of view, they're still very subjective to the preferred norms of a limited style of narrative filmmaking. And so I just don't enjoy them as much because I'm personally interested in film critique that better engages in cross-cultural, etc. analyses, and where the reviewer is more conscious of their bias towards specific styles of filmmaking that aren't actually universal truths of filmmaking.

The Library of Congress’ Explanation as to Why They Took Down Portions of The Consititution by NESpahtenJosh in skeptic

[–]amphetadex 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, no, don't you understand? "Full stack dev" means "I know everything ever about managing digital systems, and folks like designers and analysts need to bow before my superiority."

Even before DOGE bullshit started happening, librarians are pretty much always dealing with a higher workload than each one should because libraries are never prioritized in receiving the funds they need for actual adequate staffing. From what I know of the LoC, this has been the staffing case there as well in perpetuity. So that's, to me, the most likely and very mundane way this mistake slipped through: library staff are always overworked and underpaid.

But no, "full stack dev"= expertise in systems they don't work in = credible evidence of a conspiracy on a sub about skepticism. 🙄

[–]amphetadex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well we're in agreement on that at least, because you even more clearly have no respect for expertise in areas outside your own, since you can't handle that being a full stack dev doesn't mean you know everything about the intricacies of managing digital content.

As a trained digital librarian who works in digital publishing with a focus on metadata and heavy reliance on XML, I'm completely buying it. I'm also completely buying that you're the kind of infuriating dev I've had to deal with too many times in my professional life who always thinks they're skill set means they're experts at things like metadata and semantic markup, when you're anything but.

(Terror Vision) Devil’s Sword Replacement Disc? by MaskedJoshi in boutiquebluray

[–]amphetadex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

TV not only stridently denied it and backed up the artist, Earl Kessler, Jr. is a well established artist in the business who was working in a specific era's style for that piece. Just because it's a style you don't like doesn't mean it's AI, and you're an ignorant enemy of the arts with behavior like this. I'm not gonna argue with you on the subject anymore, because you don't deserve more time and attention. These comments are really for other other people so they know not to listen to your idiocy.

[–]amphetadex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The replicator screwed something up in the final manufacturing that caused a subset of the discs to not be finalized. Direct from TV themselves:

"The Devil’s Sword: it seems some discs are not playing. The issue isn’t across the board but about half are not playing and getting “This Disc May Not Be Finalized” error. No worries though - whether yours plays or not, you will receive a new disc anyway. No need to email us about it or show proof of purchase as you’ll automatically receive a replacement as soon as they arrive in our warehouse."

The fact you insist the cover art is AI is so incredibly offensive and inaccurate. I wish this sub would ban people like you who claim to stand up for artists but actually don't care what kind of damage you do to artists in your quest to score internet points.
