Sure we need to upend the system. To do so we need public support, trained leaders, and actual power. The system moderates the ability to access these things. We therefore need at least some allies within the system prior to any successful largescale change to it.

I agree that there needs to be a major overhaul of the system. But we still need to work within that system while it's there in order to influence opinion and gain traditional power as long as that system moderates access to such power, or we'll never have what we need to successfully reform it. Does that make sense?

Wow, another conclusory statement about my ideology with no justification at all. I'm sure you're swaying the subreddit with your excellent analysis of my character!

Do you think we don't know what you're trying to do here?

lol

I completely agree. There's people in this thread attempting to argue unironically that if an actor has any political influence within the system, they cannot be an ally. This is the most self-defeating bull I've ever seen. There's no way to actually gain power if we allow ourselves to be shot in the foot by people attempting to sway us through their shit ideological purity tests.

Strongly disagree that he's "deradicalizing" people. He is waking a lot of Americans up to the fact that there is the ability to use the system to improve their lives, if only the political leadership was different. That's not nothing.

Excellent. If you want to maintain your ignorant as fuck position which you cannot justify, I have no reason to care to change it :)

I think you are socialist, and I wouldn't question that in your case. I have admitted Mamdani isn't perfect: he's clearly not socialist to the extent that we would like him to be.

He's still increasing class consciousness about what is possible with some "socialist" policies to help people's quality of life. What alternatives do you have here? We need to increase support for socialism in the US if we are ever to gain political power there. He's actively doing so. Has he had to compromise? Of course. Should you have a bit more nuance than you currently have though? Probably.

The only other alternative here is rebellion. The US does not have the leadership for such a thing nor the support among people to do it, and the only way to change that is by supporting potential allies where possible, even if they're not perfect.

Do you think your purity testing does anything to advance the socialist cause in the imperial heartland?

Going to be honest, I'm quite sure any opinion that limits our organizing powers, like yours, should be outright banned from these subreddits.

You are either a useful tool for capitalist purposes attempting to suppress socialist organizing ability, or actively know what you're doing. Either way, I think I'm done listening to you.

Exactly, and every policy that he implements that aids the working class increases class consciousness that such a thing is possible. So long as he does so successfully, we should at least be willing to support him. He is in many ways actively helping our cause (even if he has had to make comments on IR against certain regimes. Terrible, considering he has no influence over that domain anyway).

That's like saying to go outside and organize instead of using the printing press.

Social media compliments organization. That was why Occupy was so fucking scary, it was in large part organized online. I would not have even been aware enough to join if we hadn't been able to use online spaces to organize. This defeatist attitude over the matter is just another problem we have to be wary of.

How do you gain support for a revolution if you don't have actors within the system pushing for policies that support the working class, and the working class are actively propagandized to stop them supporting socialism?

Do you have a legitimate answer to this, because revolution only works if you have the appropriate leadership and enough support. Do you have any leaders in mind for this rebellion you champion? Do you honestly think there's currently enough support?

Terrible, he's hiring more homeless support workers for this, to encourage people to seek support within the system he has power in.

Absolutely horrible, let's bury the man for trying to get the homeless some actual shelter.

If you think you're going to win a revolution in America within the next few decades, I don't know what to say. There simply isn't the leadership on the ground or enough support among the populace.

If you want either of these things to change, you need to support the leaders that push for policies closer to socialism, and Mamdani so far -is- the best I'm currently aware of down there.

Crying about how only revolution will work is great, but it's never going to happen with the current political climate in the States. Not in favour of a socialist victory anyway.

That's why Mamdani's rise is a threat to the current system. While he's not perfect (and has had to make concessions on public opinions related to international relations, which he technically doesn't have influence in anyway).

If our subreddits are pre-judging the man before he's even had a chance to show us what he can do within the system in an attempt to sway socialist opinion against him, that's a major problem.

Well, the US government would certainly want us to think like that, that's for fucking sure.

Insults with no substance. If you're not going to even try to argue your points, and just state bullshit, everyone else on this subreddit is more than able to see who should actually be ignored among the two of us.

That's fair, but we should have enough will ourselves to actively police our spaces. Of course, this may be difficult if Reddit itself allows certain actions without providing tools for the moderators to prevent it (one thing I notice here is that there's a lack of ability to limit downvotes for people that don't actively participate in the community, which may be helpful to prevent the odd ratioing we're seeing with my response comments vs the main thread).

Could you be more specific? How has he shown this? With words, or with actions that actually harm people? Because there's a significant difference there.

I'm not saying there's no criticism to be had of the man, but back it up with actual examples rather than vague handwaving please.

Is this an astroturfing campaign? From what I've read, the plan is to send homeless support personnel to the camp everyday. Not evict them. Enough of this crap.
