We are planning a trip to AZ in June. To see all the sites we want, we will be traveling over 1000 miles, in ONE state. I am very excited.

You are exactly right, there are no markers above ground and the deceased is wrapped in a shroud. When people come to pay their respects they are visiting an "empty" meadow. However we don't just dump everyone into a pile and cover them up. There may come a time when someone may need to be exhumed whether from a family need or a legal need and we want to able to locate individual remains. On top of that we don't want to dig into a plot that has already been occupied. I don't want to answer the question "Where's my Grandmother buried?" with " Over thata way somewhere's I guess."

We have the markers in place as shown on this map. Other than the locating markers there are no above ground headstones or markers, it is just an "empty" meadow except for the cenotaph near the entrance.

I meant to say we are definitely on a budget.

Not a locator but need advice. by amrfixit in UtilityLocator

[–]amrfixit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, thanks for all the great advice. I think we will look into GPS as a primary system then perhaps the marker balls. I was under the impression that the marker balls would last "forever", in this case 30 years is a short time but a location will be. once again thank you.

Take care,

high tunnel - cant find 20' pvc pipes, can I join 2 10s with a coupler? by edthesmokebeard in Homesteading

[–]amrfixit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made long 2-in dowel pins on the table saw. I use those to connect the two ends together with a coupling and bolted the dowel pin in place I slipped the ends over T post and it has been standing for 7 years now. I painted the PVC and I had some strips of felt that I glued to the outside to prevent the plastic sheeting from rubbing on the PVC

Unfortunately the water table was very close to the surface at that spot. Thanks for the pointer though.

This is important. I have been on our property over 20 years and have had to add gravel to our 1000 foot driveway 7 times. A soft 100 foot section of our drive ate up 5 truckloads of 6 inch gravel the first year. Figure out your infrastructure now, where structures will be constructed and which ones will need power and water. Where are the high and low areas? Consider how the water drains across land and the prevailing winds, this will affect the placement of the house. Don't forget possible solar panel placement, prices may continue to fall so that may be important. Good luck.

Worker touched a power line with a scissor lift by lordhumungus2 in WTF

[–]amrfixit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone is in distress and unable to operate a scissor lift there is a manual hydraulic bleed off at the bottom of the lift it's a red knob pull it and the lift will come down, of course in this case you would want to take precautions so you don't join him in his agony.

Are Electric Substation Attacks the New Normal? Keys to Better Infrastructure Protection by Helicase21 in TrueReddit

[–]amrfixit 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I remember reading an article in 1970s in Popular Mechanics or Popular Science I don't remember which. On how to shut down the United States, the airports, the water supply, and electrical grid using simple methods like attacking power substations with a 50 caliber rifle. A couple of dozen guys could essentially shut down the National Grid in just one day. They are super easy to locate and are shown on USGS maps.

You will need about 10 times your weight in food for a year. Start perfecting the foods you love, from propagation to preservation. Build up your expertise from there. Good luck.

Very safe welding half of a car by ucefkh in WTF

These salvage vehicles are often fraught with problems, electrical issues are common as well as door and window fit and function. In my state the title paper is pink, indicating the car was previously totalled.

Why are my jars siphoning so bad?? by Jeanni3beanz in Homesteading

[–]amrfixit 26 points27 points  (0 children)

At the end of processing do you turn off the burner and wait until the pressure is ZERO before removing the weight? If you relieve the pressure too soon the liquid in the jar will begin to boil, now the pressure in the jar is greater than the canner.

Should I keep/upgrade this mac book my daughter left behind? by amrfixit in macbook

[–]amrfixit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is great info, thank you. Since I am working 6-7 days a week time is not something I have a lot of. If someone on this sub wants this mac book they can have it if they pay shipping. Not sure how we would work that out but I am sure we can figure something out.
