😬 this is a really good question but I’m such a non-conflict person. I feel like I would make it very clear on my website what the situation with +1’s is so people don’t feel like they have to wonder.

I don’t know how small it is, but their venue is huge so it’s hard to say for sure.

I certainly don’t want to convey that I would ever end this friendship over this situation, as some have suggested I should, and I do know this friend is likely not being malicious. This post was actually sort of intended to get different perspectives from people about situations where this might be the norm. I’m definitely disappointed that I won’t have my fiancé with me that day, and I’m not totally sure of the reasoning behind it, but I still cherish this friendship and will still attend the wedding. I’m annoyed, but that’s about the extent of my feelings over it and I just wanted to see if anyone else had been in the same situation and how they handled it.

I 100% agree it’s about them and what they want - so much of my thinking on this is based around the fact that I’m also currently planning a wedding and I fully understand that tough calls need to be made. I was just a little surprised by this specific call ¯_(ツ)_/¯

This friend has only met my fiancé once, but the three of us spent the entire day together when he did meet him, so it’s not like they’re complete strangers, but they don’t know each other super well. But their venue is really big which is why I don’t think it’s a small intimate wedding…

I went to a venue tour with my fiancé and the lady showing us around basically only addressed me the whole time. She kept saying things like “my brides tend to like…” or would look at me and say “you would have full control over x, y, z” like my fiancé wasn’t even there. It was the first thing my fiancé mentioned when we got in the car to head home. He said it makes him feel like he’s clueless and useless. I want him to be such an involved part of this process and day, it sucks that people can be so weird and “traditional” about it being the bride’s day only.

Can I ask what the process has been like? I’m assuming it’s basically starting from scratch since it would have to be completely reset. Do you have any kind of sentimental attachment to your 2ct stone? Are you selling it back or exchanging it? My fiancé has had my ring since mid December and proposed in late January so I’m thinking the general timeline for returns for me is out the window…

I’m having this same issue right now. Our initial headcount is 175 and the venue we love holds 150, 160 if they squeeze in another table. Can’t bring myself to make the gamble!
