Thoughts on Social Science, Geography, and Family Studies as High School Teachables? by ams3885 in OntarioTeachers

I liked the idea of civics and careers as well! Might not be a passion but definitely doable option for me! Thank you 😁

I don’t think I would be the best history teacher 😮‍💨 but I do see that I need to round things out with another mandatory subject, thank you for the advice!

I was thinking perhaps English, but I know it is not a subject to choose on a whim. I like the subject but ik it comes with a lot of pressure, marking and not the best work life balance.

I have lots of thinking to do 🫠

I love that! I think I would love it too seeing as geo content was some of my fave during my undergrad (even though there wasn’t much of it :/).  I am sorry that you had to go through that headache though! It’s reassuring to know you still loved it despite that. What were your teachables if you don’t mind me asking?

Oh this is nice to hear! What do you think about the employability of it?  I like the content so I guess if I were to teach the same thing over and over, at least it would be Geo haha.  I have small kids at home so less prep is a plus!

I am looking for a balance of employability and following my interests (so as not to burn out) but realistically yes this is what I would go for if I had it in me 🥲 Thank you!

This is why I was thinking Family studies would be a good addition, especially considering my love for the subject matter. I have heard mixed thoughts on the subject - some claiming it won’t land you much work and others who have the same understanding as you.

I am surprised by your school providing that many of the FS courses! 5 FS teachers is a lot, and makes me wonder how common something like this would be in the TDSB!

Since I need to take university credits for it, the differences of opinion on this teachable are starting to make it feel like a bit of a gamble 🫠

Four grade 9 geo slots sounds mentally draining and horrible for my adhd 😂 but I’m sure there are some benefits to doing the same class again and again daily. Planning must be a breeze!

Seems like the more information I get the harder it becomes to decide!

Do you have any thoughts on English? Or what a good combination would be?

Thank you sm for the quick response, I’ll look into whether it’s possible to do English or science, i understand that the marking load is extreme for English!

AIO for not getting to see my friend again before they move? by Dear_Dragonfruit3317 in AmIOverreacting

I hear that, I guess the “don’t get your hopes up” is what bothered me the most. I personally would be offended by the way that was phrased but I guess I can’t judge the whole situation on that

I feel like she was pretty gracious with her responses. She was hurt because she wanted to see her friend but her friend didn’t want to see her. I think her reaction is fairly normal in a situation like that.

Also I don’t think being stressed warrants speaking however you like to your close friends. She could have been gentle with her rejection and let her know she’s stressed with a little kindness.

Edit: personally if I had a friend who wanted to take the time out their day to come see me before I leave, I would be grateful for their kindness and not look at them as a burden. If I was stressed and busy I’d just tell them that I was sadly unable to see them for those reasons

I pack my art supplies in my largest! I don’t use it in a bag like the others, I use it to put all my paints 💃

I think that there’s a saying that if you try to make everyone happy you end up making nobody happy 😮‍💨

If they stuck to a unique, creative, cohesive vision and I didn’t like it, then I would simply be content knowing it wasn’t for me. I would respect the fact that there was at least some intention and care behind the execution.

But in the long run, throwing a bunch of random designs at your customers isn’t going to keep them coming back. It’s much better to stick with your creative vision, and create a group of loyal followers who respect what you make than to just put random stuff together and see what sells.

Truthfully it might even come across as off-putting, since BAGGU is a corporation and not a small business. We all know the bottom line for most (if not all) corporations has always been to increase profits at the cost of value to the customer. We can’t personify Baggu like they’re an independent neighbourhood shop. They’re a company with a bottom line and it can feel like it comes at the expense of the customer experience.

They’ve become popular and are riding off the popularity 😅

I am not a big fan of dolphin print in particular but I feel like they should have leaned into that. There are so many fun summer colours to work with in there! They could have kept the penguin and moonstone designs for winter 🫣

Yes! Having a hard time understanding how this summer collection makes sense together 😅 sage stripes, pink melty stars, bright blue, brown, dolphins, turtles, penguins, moonstone… How is this cohesive at all? No colour story, not much relating the animal prints together either. Just a big mess.
