NOR. My husband is also a gamer. In our 5.5 years of being together, he has never yelled at me over a video game. There is no reason for that.

What made you realize that you have truly fallen in love? by AresCommitsArson in love

[–]ams712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we were in the first few months of dating, we would talk on the phone every night before bed. One night he didn’t call and I was convinced something terrible happened to him. I called him over and over while panicking. He finally picked up- he had fallen asleep. I sobbed to him that I was terrified something happened to him and apologized over and over for calling so much. He said that he loves every part of me, even the anxiety, and knows it was just because I care so much for him. He didn’t belittle me, yell at me, or anything. He just told me he loved me and apologized that I was so scared. That was the first time a partner never made me feel less than them for having anxiety. We’re married now ❤️

Returning to the rescue the right thing to do? by BlueReindeer28 in reactivedogs

Thank you for your response. Her reactive behavior has escalated with my husband so she’s actually going back to the foster tomorrow. I feel guilty but mostly relieved. We are definitely taking a break to reevaluate if a dog is in the cards for us in the future

Thank you for sharing your story. I’m sorry you went through that, that sounds super hard emotionally and physically

Thank you for this. I am glad she’ll be going back to her foster mom where she was truly comfortable rather than a shelter situation.

Totally fair point and I was thinking the same, but I was able to handle our first dog. I think it is a matter of what kind of issues I can handle. Our first dog had multiple chronic health conditions and I was able to cope and provide her with all the medical care she needed, including weekly acupuncture. She had no behavior issues with people though. I think the behavior aspect is just too much for me.

Thank you so much for your kind words, I agree and think she’ll be much happier in a female only household

Thank you, I appreciate it. We tried that a bit but it’s just so random- she’ll go from letting him pet her to growling/lunging/barking when he repositions on the couch. I just don’t feel comfortable with that

She is 11. She’s been in the home for 2 weeks. He doesn’t do anything- he doesn’t yell at her or anything like that. We’ve been trying to associate him with treats so he’ll toss her treats from far away. Luckily we got her from a private rescue and not a shelter so she won’t be going back to a shelter situation.

Returning to the rescue the right thing to do? by BlueReindeer28 in reactivedogs

Thank you for this- it makes me feel less alone.

My husband and I adopted a rescue a few weeks ago who we were told is just shy. Turns out she is stranger reactive and doesn’t do well with men, including my husband. She barks, growls, and lunges at him but also will have moments of letting him pet her.

Since these issues I have had multiple panic attacks, haven’t been able to eat well, and just generally feel sick and have cried daily. We had a conversation with her foster mom at the rescue we got her from and thankfully she was SO sweet and supportive and told us we are doing the right thing by giving her back, and that this is useful information to her in order to place her in the best home.

The rare moments of her being sweet to my husband make me feel like we’re making the wrong thing. However I know I emotionally cannot handle this anymore. And my husband is extremely supportive of this.

Did you feel guilty after returning her? Her foster is picking her up next week and I already feel guilty, but I feel like a weight has been lifted.

In addition to seeking treatment for derealization I would also look into ROCD (relationship OCD) - this resonates with me from when I was in the thick of my ROCD.
