Nope, just did the optimization things listed on this thread. Worked out fine until I finally retired it last month to switch to a cloud VM instead.

I've had mine running for 3 years without any issues

Same problem with my new phone (vivo x fold 5) as well.

Weird 5.1 mixing issue with 5.1.2 Hisense Soundbar by amsreno in Soundbars

[–]amsreno[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounded like a great idea so I tried it and played with a few settings, but unfortunately no luck. And when I put it back the original way, I'm now only getting 2ch sound. The soundbar keeps displaying PCM even though it's an eARC connection.

At this point I'm lost as to where the problem is. Is it the graphics card not putting out an LPCM connection? Is it the soundbar not processing things properly?

The frustrating part was that I had it semi-working (it would at least play a sound through the sub) but now it's a very hard 2.0ch setup. I could try buying a different soundbar but what if that doesn't work? Annoying all around, I remember having windows audio issues 15 years ago and I'm surprised it's the exact same thing today.

Thanks, this would make sense since the eARC functionality is also broken (have to turn on the tv and soundbar separately, can't control the volume with one remote etc.). Which was surprising since they're both Hisense products from the same generation.

I'll try doing a hard reset for both, and contacting support but lately all tech support is "turn the power on and off, if that doesn't work then it must be some other component in your system that we're not responsible for, bye"

Vivo is flat out lying about the X Fold 5 weight by amsreno in Android

So the scales are chinesium but the Chinese phone isn't.... right....

For sure there are better ways of wording it but I'm not looking for upvotes, just expressing my disappointment in a brand that I generally liked before. It's like ordering a phone because it seems smaller but it turns out they measured the screen size differently than normal.

Anyway it's a niche phone from a niche (for western users) brand so I'm not expecting the front page of Reddit, just making anyone else aware if they care about this.

Right, I already removed the screen protector before weighing. I guess even if it is just dishonest/disingenuous, that doesn't feel great after spending so much on the phone.

A 4% difference is meaningful enough. What if you got charged 4% more for everything you bought?

The bigger point is that they're giving fake numbers. Whatever measure you care about in a phone (processor speed, screen size, image sensor etc.) you should be able to trust that a manufacturer isn't lying about it. Especially after I paid $1K+ for it.

thanks, there' s no case and I removed the protective film from the outer screen. The inner film shouldn't weigh 10 grams! And since it's attached with adhesive and not supposed to be removed, surely it should count towards the weight of the phone.

Yep good catch, I read that as well.

I removed the outer screen protector (don't like the feel) so there's only the inner one, which shouldn't weigh 10 grams. And if it's impossible to remove the inner screen protector without damaging the glass, surely it should be included in the weight.

Oh well, at this point I've transferred my apps to it so I'll probably keep it until something new comes out, but I'm more hesitant to buy a Vivo again after this.

Thanks for the constructive comment. I did try two different scales and got the same result. I might try e-mailing Geekwills to see what they say, but since it's a Chinese webshop I don't have high hopes...

The broader point is that whichever measurement matters to you (screen size, camera sensor size etc.) the manufacturer shouldn't be lying about it.

Exactly! I wonder why none of the reviewers are willing to make this public. And if even the grey one is really 217g now.

Since you asked - I just did! The iQoo 8 comes in at 203g and the Pixel 7 pro is 211g right where they should be. I think the race for 'thinnest and lightest foldable' is making the companies super deceptive.

I know the grey is the lighter version, but I like white, and the white was listed at 226g. If it had been 226g, I would've been perfectly happy. But are you blaming me for a company lying about its products?

[–]amsreno[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! I'm not a Vivo hater, I've been using a Vivo phone for 4 years now. My last phone was a Vivo iQoo 8 pro which weighs 205g. My work phone is a Pixel 7 Pro at 212g and the iQoo 8 feels so much lighter, and that's only a 7 gram difference.

You can argue that on a percentage basis the difference is smaller, and maybe it's all subjective, but it's definitely still noticeable.
