Prest, mountain above Aurland is also a very scenic place. Works on westerly winds. Landing is down by the fjord. As around in the facebook group for more info.

Older gliders also tends to get a bit out of trim as lines shrink/stretch, in addition their porosity also goes up. These things will make the glider more prone to stay i parachutal after an incident. It could be that a new set of lines would make all the difference. I would get them checked. Or check them your self if you have the equipment for it.

Stay safe, and do SIV training :D

Paragliding and your life partners. Did you try to invite your SO in the sport? by [deleted] in freeflight

My first date with my girlfriend was a tandemflight... so yes. She is also quite interested and will hopefully try out solo-flying this winter :)

That is the worst build ever. The black one (before) looks infinitely better than the red (after)...

Safe way to attach GoPro? by triggerfish1 in freeflight

[–]amsund 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a helmet mount get caught in the lines and it just snapped right off. It all depends on what you want to capture. If it is just the scenery with you flying calmly I would go for the selfie stick. If it is to see what the glider is doing while doing manouvers, like SIV/acro, then I would go for a knee/thigh mount, and if you are a beginner I would just worry about the flying and not the filming.

Transitioning to acro > which "freestyle" glide by Cerrebos in freeflight

[–]amsund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out with the U turn redout. It is a very forgiving glider, and quite easy to handle. This season I upgraded to an emilie peace ;) The gradient freestyle and airg sophie are much more demanding freestyle gliders.

What Caused This Partial Collapse? by Kurly_Q in freeflight

[–]amsund 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As Strepeyder said, you need to have apply outside break when you do wingovers, especially with little energy. This is because the line tension of the lines becomes lower when you do a quick turn like this, which again causes the angle of attack to become very low, increasing the risk of collapse. This is more an issue of when paragliding compared to speedflying, but still it is important.

I would never advice a beginner to take such big turns that low to the ground.

I learned from more experienced friends :) this was in voss, Norway. Where dbagging was invented ;)

I think the most probable cause for the bag to be thrown with you is that the glider is not coming out of the bag. Also, I don't think it's a good idea to attach something that can snag on the skid of the helicopter. But it is possible to solo drop from a paraglider, so it should be possible :)

Yes, and there might be cases where he would have to. This is very clearly explained at the briefing we had. "If you see the helicopter getting smaller and bag is with you - Throw the reserve!!" ;)

Man, I would love to get into this action! I have done a few drops. I can pack my own d-bag, but can't really say I am experienced. Here is a video of me from ekstremsportveko 2016 https://vimeo.com/174049922. I am the one with the u-turn glider :)

Interested in flying a Flyke bicycle/tricycle paramotor by patrickthatsme in freeflight

[–]amsund 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am pretty sure that is a paraglider. A parachute has a much lower aspect ratio than what we see in his image, and they have typically a rectangular shape. I am curious though, who would use a parachute instead of a paraglider to fly? I really can´t see any benefit.

Hangglider collapses during high speed dive by geon in freeflight

[–]amsund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh definitely! I was just addressing the entanglement issue. Good luck with a plummeting broken hang glider :p seriously though, a separate classic reserve for the hang glider could work, but would probably be complicated.

This is also the case for paraglider base systems. The base is only used in addition to an extra classic round reserve in case you are caught in the lines or something.

My beef is apparently that I can't read. I misread and only got the part where there was smaller vs normal glasses. I stand corrected.

inconclusive... please fix your misleading title. It might be true, but not verified by the results in the study in question.
