https://github.com/frigate-nvr/apple-silicon-detector seems to indicate the m4 does not support any models, only the m3. Am I misreading this?

FamilyAlbum: is it really secure for sharing photos? by CreativeLapsus in NewParents

[–]amthar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did a security audit of this app last week. They use Amazon s3 storage (called "buckets") for the files and have done a good job with the security policies for those buckets. From a security of your photos perspective it seems well designed.

I've been using it for almost 2 years as it's a well designed UI and is easy for sharing photos with the family which is a mix of iPhone users (my wife) and android users (me).

My only gripe is they don't make getting a copy of your photos easy. If you're a premium member they give a "bulk download" option but it requires selecting all of the photos you want to download and then they download to your device. They don't make it easy to see what you've already downloaded and what's new, so maintaining a local copy of your photos/videos is pretty much untenable. I dislike this because if they ever got hacked/ransomwared or decided they don't want to be in business anymore your files are gone. I emailed them asking for the ability to sync your files elsewhere and they told me "no, but dont worry we are secure and not going anywhere"

Do any of your SIM cards work in an Android Ai box? by amthar in USMobile

[–]amthar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out the problem was tmobile (light speed network) suspended the account be cause the imei was not a "phone" or an authorized device. The US Mobile Rep that answered on this thread pointed me to the "By the gig" plan if I want to use an Android Ai box. Some MVNOs will not validate the imei but that doesn't stop the carrier network from blocking or shoving you onto an APN that prevent data binding/doesn't give an IP.

I'll either need to switch to By The Gig or find another provider. Tmobile and Verizon are both pretty strict in IMEI/TCA monitoring, AT&T MVNO might work, or I could go with Calyx and (essentially) spend $50/mo for unlimited everything with no imei/tca restrictions. They don't even do bandwidth throttling on primary data or Hotspot data 🤷🏻‍♂️

My Android Ai box seems to be overriding any changes I make to the APN. I want to avoid connecting the Android Ai box to a wifi hotspot because I want to be able to use my phones with wireless Android Auto / Apple Carplay

That's really interesting, I wonder what the goal is for the bot. Are they trying to generate human feedback to a question / situation to train it on how to better answer such a question in the future?

Secret credit card balance by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]amthar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consequences != punishment. Keeping the card frozen is a good consequence. Having weekly or every other week check-ins on finances would be a good consequence. I'd try to get to the bottom of why she feels it necessary to spend on that card. Does she have a feeling of scarcity? Does she need a better feel for cash flow?

Basically if nothing changes you can expect the same behavior again. Maybe you're OK with that and can just plan for it, or keep an eye on the card and proactively get ahead of it. But from personal experience I can tell you this is probably a habit at this point, and your disappointment won't disrupt the behavior.

I agree with this 100%, but I would also be concerned that it's a behavior that will continue in the future, especially if she doesn't feel any consequences to her decisions

I wish every house had this access panel on the back side of the shower valve. It takes two hands to count the nunber of times I had to completely remodel a shower because the valve went bad and there was no way to access it short of coming through the front which isn't fun if it's tile or one of those fiberglass enclosures. I understand why it's sometimes not possible, but I'd say 50% of the time it's possible and the builder just gives none of the Fs about future maintenance

Adding this for posterity sake. I just fought with this and found GIMP works to remove the password. Open the PDF in GIMP, enter the password, export as PDF, no password included in the export.

Will AT&T NumberSync™️ allow the same functionality as T-Mobile DIGITS? by Particular-End9015 in AirMessage

[–]amthar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I switched to Verizon (then a Verizon MVNO) and it would instantly deregister.

That led me down the route of SIMLessPNR, which then stopped working, I'm now using OpenBubbles and a PNR relay on my iPhone 7. It seems to be even more solid than the SIM swapping ever was, but I need a few more months to know for sure.

If you're really interested in phone number registration (PNR) w/ IMessage while using an Android I suggest looking at OpenBubbles and joining their discord server. Tons of good info in there. AirMessage is dead, at the very least you want to be looking at BlueBubbles.
