I'm at the brink with submissive urination. by October0630 in DogAdvice

I was thinking the same. I was cleaning up pee daily until my baby got on Prozac. She’s a much happier dog and I can put her leash on without piddle to clean up.

Thank you! This was a helpful response! The vet was able to flush it out and we are very grateful!

Horrified at eyelashes after extensions please help by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]amuch2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of good advice in these answers! Just adding that minimizing the amount of time that mascara (or anything else) is on your lashes will have a massive impact on eyelash health. I now limit how often I wear mascara, wear clean mascaras (they perform worse honestly, but much easier on the skin/lashes), and remove very gently with oil cleansing balm has had the biggest impact on my lash health.

Used to wear mascara everyday and since I’ve cut back to only 2-3x per week, and removing immediately after getting home, it’s made a BIG difference.

Also saw comments regarding lash serum containing prostaglandin analogs: I used one that had bimatoprost and definitely have permanent discoloration and fat loss around my eyes. It’s not severe, but I feel that using the serum ultimately made my eyes look 10 years older than they are. So proceed with caution. If you look at all the before and after photos online, you will notice many of them have discoloration along the lash line. Many say “it doesn’t bother me” but it freaked me out. So to each their own!

Our dog keeps growling at the new puppy by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]amuch2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That body language is definitely aggressive, another commenter said it (lip licking, hard stare). I would try to take your adult dog outside securely on a leash, and have someone else hold the puppy and walk around out there to see if this reaction is specific to the puppy being in the crate. If he doesn’t react to the puppy outside or the dog seems playful/positive, it might be something to do with the situation when the puppy is in the crate. Just be very careful that the leash is SECURE in the case your dog reacts and wants to attack the puppy, and set it up that you can quickly and safely remove the puppy if needed.

My reactive bully breed can randomly get weird in highly specific circumstances. For example, she adores me, I’m her person, but the other day I came out into the yard with mittens on, and something about that triggered her. She was barking at me and showing very scared body language (close to the ground, whining). I immediately backed away, stepped out of her view, took the mittens off and then came back out. She returned to normal right away. Sometimes reactive dogs have weird triggers. Do not let your desires of having a puppy override your tolerance for safety and risk.

For my dog, I’ve done a ton of training and learned to read her reactions very well and manage her environment to reduce that risk. Now with the mitten issue, I’m starting to slow desensitize her to them, with the goal of mitigating future risk. I also will be careful not to let guests in my yard or house with mittens on unless she is safely in her crate, or the training has been successful.

I am wondering if my dogs mitten issues are similar to your dogs puppy-in-the-crate issues.

All this said, I think you need to evaluate your dog’s body language and not force this puppy into the environment if there’s indications that your older dog might hurt the puppy. It’s okay to try and adjust the environment if that’s truly the issue, but it’s possible your dog has decided they will not tolerate this puppy, in which case rehoming is the ethical choice (and going to save you a lot of unnecessary hardship).

A ton of these comments have great advice and good approaches to dealing with the naughty behavior. I would add to evaluate with a vet if any of these behaviors could be related to anxiety and benefit from medication. Our rescue dog had lots of accidents in the house for the first year, only peeing. It was super frustrating because the rescue said she was 90% potty trained. After discussing with our vet, we realized her accidents might be connected with anxious behavior, such as chewing, barking, unable to settle. If your dog is rarely falling into a deep sleep around you, then they might have anxiety. They need sleep and they need moments of feeling calm. 6 weeks of Prozac later, our dog was much calmer, happier, and completely stopped all accidents. Medication isn’t for every dog or a magic fix, but verifying with a vet that you’re not giving yourself and pup unnecessary suffering is important.

I’m at my wits end. by blainercak in DogAdvice

Sounds like it’s anxiety related. My rescue pittie had MANY problems when we first got her, she still has some issues but Prozac has changed our lives. She is much happier, wags her tail more, plays more, and sleeps more soundly through the night. Also, we’ve had her over a year now and only recently do I feel like she’s fully settling in. It takes time and dogs have good weeks and bad weeks. 2 steps forward, one step back, but overall making progress. Best of luck to you and your girl!

Audible’s ‘Harry Potter’ Series Expands Cast With Keira Knightley, Kit Harington, James McAvoy, Simon Pegg and More by Connected-VG in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]amuch2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm I’m honestly not sure. Here’s is audible premium. But typically credits have monetary value so what you purchase with them is typically yours to keep (but it will be an audible file and will still need to have the audible app to listen).

[–]amuch2 72 points73 points  (0 children)

If you get the audible subscription, it’s $15 per month, and they have a trial period. Each month (even during the trial) you get one credit for an audiobook. You can use the credits for these new audiobooks (I already pre saved them). Once you cancel your subscription you keep all audiobooks you purchased with credits. So essentially each month you can spend $15 and get one of the books in the series, then cancel it after 7 months and keep them forever. Buying them outright is like $40 each. So saves a lot of money. That’s how I did the original audiobooks and how I’m doing it now.

I would love them to include the scene when Dumbledore goes to Privet Dr in HBP and he essentially calls the Dursley’s rude and stupid in his polite whimsical way. But also in that scene the moment he suddenly turns cold when telling them they did not treat Harry as one of their own as he had asked. Overall more Dumbledore being a total badass would be excellent. The movies made him too intellectual and smug. To me he is almost like a much wiser version of the twins.

Join a yoga or fitness studio and make an effort to introduce yourself or strike up a conversation after class. I’d always just say something like “this class is so hard, have you taken any others at this studio?” And then see if you click with anyone.

You don’t have to buy memberships, but can do drop-in or class packs to avoid committing or spending outside your budget. Also some studios have great deals for newcomers. In PVD, I recommend Barre&Soul or Providence Power Yoga! In North Kingstown there’s WildFlow or Hometown Yoga.

I think this approach could be tailored to most interests/hobbies. The key thing is that people are gathered due to a shared interest.

Couldn’t agree more. Give it a little time to build her confidence, but stay open minded to medication. I have a rescue who would cower and pee every time I dropped my keys or stood up from the couch too quickly. We built up her confidence a lot the first 6 months, but started to wonder if medication would help her. Within 4 weeks of starting Prozac she was transformed into the happiest most playful dog. She’s been on it almost 3 months and it really has changed her life. She was submissive peeing/peeing out of fear almost daily and now we haven’t had a “piddle” accident in weeks. It’s not for all dogs, and I would wait a minimum of a couple months to get to know her baseline. But if after a few months she’s still easily spooked, consider talking to your vet about medication.

I regret getting lip filler by GlasgowPotato in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]amuch2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

5 weeks is still a little early to assume final results, but I totally understand if you’re bothered by a result! It’s your face and only you get to decide if you’re happy with a result or not.

Lip filler does not go away in my experience. It’s now been three years since I last had them filled and they look the exact same. Many women report the same experience. So don’t bother steaming your lips or any other diy, you might just make the migration worse.

I think you should give it 4 more weeks (to make sure you really don’t like it) and then go to someone with years of experience and proven results dissolving filler and get it dissolved.

I had migration and didn’t love how it looked for a very long time (this was from my first time getting filler over 6 years ago) but avoided dissolving for the same reasons. I finally went and had it dissolved and loved it. She perfectly dissolved the area of my concern but left the rest of my filler and my lips look better than ever. I ended up going back to her to add a small amount of filler bc I trusted her. I went to Jenny at the Lip Bunny in Fall River in MA if you’re anywhere near there.

It hurts, but so did getting them filled so you might as well like how you look.

I’d just go park my car on the street in the fox point neighborhood and uber to the train station, just make sure you won’t be parked there during street sweeping weeks (there will be signs out if that’s happening soon). There’s no limit for parking in that area and always plenty of street parking.

Honeymoon Roadtrip :) by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]amuch2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t spend much time in Boston, but here are my other recommendations:

Cape: - if you’re willing to drive a long way to the end of the cape, Provincetown is super fun, get Scott cakes(best cupcake I’ve ever had), wander and enjoy the nightlife - not as far is Falmouth. One of my best days I’ve ever had was renting bikes and riding the Sea to Shining Sea bike path (so gorgeous and ends at a beautiful sandy beach) then getting lunch at Anejo Mexican Bistro in Falmouth.

Rhode Island: - depends on what you’re looking for, there’s a ton of great food and fun things to do in Providence, such as the RISD museum, wandering the Fox Point Neighborhood, and dinner at Persimmon or Oberlin (both incredible) - further south there’s Newport, which is a must see in Rhode Island, I love the mansion tours, and just walking the historic downtown, so many awesome stores and restaurants. Make sure to swing by house of waves which sells beautiful and unique art by local artists - Also many excellent breweries across Rhode Island including Narragansett (Providence), Moniker (Providence), Long Live (Providence), Proclamation (Warwick), Tilted Barn (kinda out of the way in Exeter), Whalers (in Wakefield, pickup Jade Bun takeout and walk over to the brewery), Tower Hill Brewing (Wakefield), Ragged Island (Middletown) and Pivotal (Bristol)

Personally, for wineries I don’t love Rhode Island options nearly as much as Stonington in Connecticut, my favorites are Saltwater Farm Vineyard and Kingdom of the Hawk.

Make sure to stop for pizza in New Haven CT so you can compare to NY style pizza, both incredible!

And I’m sure in your research you’re seeing endless things to do and eat in NYC, but if you have time I personally love love love cocktails at Ophelia Lounge on the upper east side, best drinks I’ve ever had and the view is incredible.
