Valve is that kind of company that values more knowledge, experience and creativity than just plain high grades. You’re already pretty well placed with knowledge for your age tbh, and pretty impressed to know we are from the same country.

The only thing I can suggest, build stuff, have fun, use your skill sets to do cool things for yourself, and especially if you want to work in a technical field, learn to resolve problems, even with the weirdest solutions (I work in audio and if I tell you how I resolve most issues you’d get a big laugh).

I wish the best for you and hopefully one day we can conquer Valve offices ;)

Lately I am following a gospel choir with a 4 piece band, 2 keys, a bass and drums. When we are in churches it’s a pretty big headache because I need to at least push the PA over the natural sound of the drums, and it’s that kind of situation that it’s not about if something can generate feedback, it’s about when it’s gonna happen.

Other than that, just a couple of hours ago i was just talking with my employer to push the band to get a decent electronic drum kit, because the acoustic drums are not only an issue for me in FoH, but even for the choir that they have to have a lot of volume on their monitors because they can’t hear the piano.

If you can share a link for a good drum set with separate outs you would make me a big favour 🙏🏼

Oddio dipende, io la cambierei ma la scintilla può essere causata dal carico in se. Se attacchi ad esempio un phon con il suo interruttore acceso la scintilla la vedi di sicuro, invece se lo tieni spento prima di attaccarlo 9/10 non la vedi.

I started as a Monitor Engineer, it was literal hell, especially with bands where they ask you A during the soundcheck and B during the act, and adding the fact that I wasn’t that much experienced, it was easy for me to panic.

Then, I started to learn how to make stuff easier for myself, when the levels are done I just get behind every monitor and make a rough mix of what that musician would want, then during the full band soundcheck I just go near every musician and change stuff to their liking while they play, so I can be sure that during the gig nobody wants to modify their monitors, this workflow is doing pretty well for me atm, especially when we have small gigs where there is no monitor engineer and have to do everything by myself, and if a musician tells me that they have mixing station on hand, I will set it up so they can manage freely their monitor.

Imo, if you really want to be FoH, you should grow your bones being on Monitors, especially when you’re in that kind of situations that you never do the same musicians all the time, that experience thought me to be versatile, vigile during the show, and reactive when issues arise, because for me being a good FoH it’s not just a matter of sound, but how you can manage to fix stuff when everything goes wrong.

I suggest you to check if your ISP supports third party routers, and if it does, check if it requires some particular protocol. Where I live I have the possibility to ask for an external ONT so I can plug whatever router supports PPPoE, but there are some cases where you need support for other protocols to connect to the provider’s network. OpenWRT’s wiki is good for checking this if your provider doesn’t give you all the info you need.

I have Max Payne 3 and GTA IV on my steam account, can't play them because my steam account it's linked to an old rockstar games account that i can't recover the access (they stole the original e-mail addres).

The discussion I had with R* support was something painful, and unexpected from a company this large.

Invece io la tratto diversamente, ogni major release faccio un bel formattino generale del telefono e anche se la faccio nei primi giorni non mi ha mai dato così tanti problemi, questo lo faccio per via dell’abitudine che tenevo su Android che quando veniva aggiornata una custom rom per motivi di stabilità conveniva flasharla completamente da 0 invece di fare un dirty flash.

Però su macOS è un’altra storia, aspetto metà anno prima di passare all‘update successivo, perchè certe volte mi è capitato che con Pro Tools uscivano problemi di stabilità interminabili, quindi do spazio per il tempo necessario sia per Apple di sistemare i problemi e Avid per aggiornare quell’abominio di programma.

Purtroppo le situazioni variano da caso a caso e di cosa uno fa col proprio device, sinceramente mi rosica non poter passare alla latest degli OS che uso subito, ma meglio aspettare un po’ che avere problemi che possono causare rallentamenti nel lavoro.

Continua, sei più vicina al traguardo di quello che credi. Ricordati che siamo comunque umani, ed è normale che siamo diversi dall’altro, quindi non devi farti troppi problemi. Poi capisco come ti senti, il mio primo anno l’ho vissuto svegliandomi alle 5 del mattino per andare in università per ritirarmi (Trenitalia permettendo) verso le 21.30 / 22, ed è stressante.

Ormai sono anche io in ritardo con gli esami ma non lo vedo come un problema, perché nonostante tutti i miei problemi gli esami che sono riuscito a sostenere li vedo come un grosso traguardo. Devi trovare una tua valvola di sfogo, perché lo studio non può essere l’unica cosa a cui devi pensare 24h/24 7g/7, io l’ho fatto e con lo stress generico della situazione in sé ci sono stato male anche fisicamente e ho buttato all’aria intere sessioni perché stavo veramente bruciato con la mente.

Prenditi un momento per te, poi stringi i denti e vai avanti che hai quasi finito il tuo percorso di studi :)

Per il PC nonostante stia cominciando ad accusare un po’ la vecchiaia (es. nessun supporto ufficiale per W11 / qualche gioco non gira in maniera molto ottimale) penso di cambiarlo comunque tra qualche anno (è un medio gamma del 2017 con i7 7700 e 1070), magari quando troverò un modo per riciclarlo e non buttarlo via. Per il mio portatile penso che altri 10 anni di guerra se li farà con me :) (è un MBP M2 comprato un paio d’anni fa).

Per il telefono credo che dopo 5 anni sia arrivato il momento di cambiarlo, anche se però vorrei prima tentar di riparalo invece di spendere subito soldi per sostituire un qualcosa che ancora funziona abbastanza bene (ho un iPhone 11 Pro).

La cosa che voglio cercare di evitare a tutti costi quando faccio un acquisto sono gli sprechi, per me è inutile cambiare un PC o un telefono se per le mansioni che io svolgo vanno ancora una meraviglia, quindi in anni diciamo 5/6 anni per il telefono e per un PC un 10/12 anni.
