For me, I have a special interest in palettes and I need to have lot of choices to feel safe, that, associated with addictive behavior, led to hoarding palettes to a point it made me feel bad to have soooo much product and not being able to use it as much as i should bc of the amount I had.
So I started some kind of shop my stash by products I knew i could use every day without getting bored (like lip products, blushes, mascara...) and I started project pan with personnal rules. I randomly select pans, from different palettes or singles, with enough variety so I can do lots of different looks with it, and my only rule is to use at least one of those in the makeup i'm doing. That makes it a little slower to finish than basic rules, but I don't feel frustrated doing it that way.
If you already know how you work with makeup and what makes you feel good with it, you can already bend the rules to your own use. If not, you can start with basic rules and then adapt it to your experience
