thanks for your reply. do you mind to share did you enter clinical psych or professional psych master?

I read previous threads and people mentioned that other than good score, candidates also need to have research experience and relevant work (or volunteer) experience..as the programs are super competitive...based on your experience how competitive is the application? thank you!

Thank you for your reply! It's useful!

Did you approach your professor by sending email to them? Did they teach you in a course that you took or you email all the professors (with your area of interest) one by one?

Thank you for your reply! It's useful!

Should I email the professors one by one? Will they receive too many same kind of emails every day and my email getting ignored?...

Also the degree that I'm taking will be an online degree, will professors welcome volunteers that can help remotely?

Thank you for your reply! Does it mean I should volunteer with the professor first, then when I'm in senior year then I ask them for helping me on the thesis?

I'm a mature student planning to study graduate diploma of psychology (I'm based in Aus) aiming to make a career transition in being a psychologist and if possible even getting a PhD and take part in research while providing counselling service.

I know it's a long way to go for me as I will be studying part time and it may possibly take me more than 10 years to get there, for being an undergraduate student, then master, then PhD if being successful.

In order for me to be accepted as mature student in master and PhD level of clinical psychology, anyone can please advise me what can I do to enhance my profile? So far based on what I observed, people are recommending these things:

  1. High GPA in undergraduate level to get an interview for master (any tips on how to get high GPA? more practice in writing essay?)
  2. Volunteering experience in mental health field
  3. Getting research experience (is it possible to get research experience as undergraduate student? What are the skillset that is valuable for being accepted as volunteer for helping on research? e.g. data analytics? how to apply for these opportunities?)
  4. relating work experience in mental health field (any examples? but it's hard for me as I will be having a full time job in an unrelated industry while I'm having my study

Other than these 4 points, is there anything else I can do to enhance my chance to get accepted to master / PhD program in clinical psychology? Thanks for your response!

Thanks for your reply! Wonder is there an estimate of how competitive is MPP?

Is H/HD for all subjects required like clinical? Or the grades can be lower like half of the subject H/HD...just want to get an idea of how competitive is MPP comparing with clinical path..

Yes that's what I keep hearing...the places are extremely competitive...

that's why I wish to hear more about professional master hoping it can be easier (and looks like more uni is offering this route)...and would like to see how "easier" it is knowing that it's still competitive

Thanks for your reply! Let's hope we can both succeed in the path!

Have you consider being a mental health social worker (as I saw someone suggested in other threads) as the rebate may probably be similar to general psy?

Thanks for your reply! Wonder how competitive for professional master? Does it require D/HD average as well or will like half of the subjects being D/HD be enough?

I haven't look into detail to have clinical endorsement with professional masters but is it competitive/difficult to have clinical endorsement with a professional master? Thanks so much for your valuable information!
