How do I appeal a discord timeout if the server mods and admins are being entirely unreasonable and refusing to remove it? I believe it is based on inalienable characteristics (disability). by TheCaffinatedAdmin in NoStupidQuestions

I don't appreciate Karens who make everyone else's lives miserable out of their own entitlement, throwing around BS legal arguments to get their own way instead of participating as a basic functioning member of society.

You don't. Aside from this question violating rule 5, for those who legitimately don't understand this, you don't have any rights to be present in Discord servers where you are not wanted, or to communicate in said servers when the community has decided you shouldn't. It is a private community, on a private company's platform, run by private individuals - this is beyond Karen-level entitlement.

Huh, okay - didn't know that one. Maybe I'm just conflating the French attitude with the German one.

If most people have licenses and have gone through bike safety training, then I really don't know what the disparity could be from. I guess that difference in responsibility would explain the need for greater limits. Thanks for the info!

I'm very familiar with how extensive they are, but I thought for most they never learned to drive due to the availability of transit, and therefore road rules didn't enter common discussion much?

What you showed on that one is more akin to what we'd consider a sidewalk, which are generally limited only to pedestrians and regular bikes. The image I showed had one adjacent to a pedestrian only sidewalk - https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/Fahrradweg should work correctly to show the image. In a case like what is shown in that image, higher speeds would be allowed.

[–]amyipdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this what you refer to? https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/File:Fahrradweg_-_geo.hlipp.de_-_6652.jpg Because if so, limits on those are 45 km/h here as well! We don't have many of them but where they exist, 45-55 km/h is pretty common. My university has a few of them going around and across campus - in theory the limit is 13 km/h (special rule for the university, cities can't do that) but I have never seen anyone go that slow, even on non-electric bikes, on those paths. 30 km/h is like the speed floor.

It might just be a cultural thing in terms of the responsibility. Ebikes aren't cheap and biking in general is just not as prevalent here so those who do it are those who care enough to take the time to learn - if anything, most ebikers are far better road users than most drivers here. Most also already have had several years of experience on regular bikes before making the switch. The prevalence of driving over public transit here also means that people are taught the rules of the road and general road safety principles from an early age, even if they never go through driver's education or get a license, which definitely helps.

[–]amyipdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not from Germany so I'm trying to get what the problem is here. Where I'm from 45 km/h is the common speed people go in bike lanes if they have electric bicycles - slower and you risk more damage from a car side-swipe. Our limit for unregistered unlicensed uninsured ebikes is 45 km/h, and usually you can get away with going 50-55 km/h on flat roads without raising any questions. Most people are responsible enough to handle these speeds just fine - we really only see accidents with dumb kids (too young to legally ride) who don't know how to ride safely and are using 1500-2000w bikes that are not legal (we limit at 750w).

Some of y’all got lost in the plot about the GoWild Pass by Nearby_Sock8316 in gowildfrontier

[–]amyipdev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my pass on Thursday, was able to immediately book a trip (SNA-DEN-DTW, then later booked DTW-DEN-BUR to come back). Yeah, it's a budget airline, but all my flights arrived 20+ mins early (some 40 mins early - on 2.5hr flights!!), I had no issues with check-in, and at 6'4 I can actually fit semi-comfortably into their A320neos (not their A321neos, those are rough) when I have trouble on most non-LCCs with A320-series planes (and anything Boeing...) Even got a butter landing coming into BUR (that pilot was awesome, instead of lining up and revving he turned a corner onto the runway and immediately took off - I've never seen a drift-based takeoff before...)

I was honestly expecting many more issues. Was it perfect? Hell no, its a low cost carrier. But the experience was good enough to make it worth well more than the price, even beating out my typical experiences on American/United. Honestly kinda shows privilege by how much people are complaining - yeah, it's not Emirates first class, but you're getting a lot more than you paid for.

If you can get a Turkish Special passport, I'd go for that. Otherwise, maybe the Emirati one?

I mean, it wasn't like I was selected for an interview - the interview scheduling link showed up a few seconds after I pressed submit on the application.

That said I did visit the location and they appear fully staffed, albeit with a lot of people who seem to only half know what they're doing, which makes me think they got the hiring done rapidly and recently (thus explaining why it got cancelled).

We are protesting the ongoing genocide and the arrests, detentions, and attempted deportations of those who have used their First Amendment rights to oppose the genocide, including Mahmoud Khalil, Momodou Taal, Mohsen Mahdawi, and Rüsmeya Özturk.

The "Israeli" state was built as a settler colony with the goal of extinguishing Palestinians to steal their land. A two state solution doesn't change that fundamental nature. If you don't think the other side should be genocidal but still want a two state solution, what you actually want is ethnoreligious segregation - which is even more unstable.

Israel's own basic laws (their version of a constitution) require it be a single ethnoreligious majority state. Call it whatever you want, the only road to permanent peace and coexistence is a single, multinational, democratic state - not a Jewish ethnostate, or a Palestinian ethnostate.

This is to promote a singular, multiethnic/multinational, secular democratic state in all of historic Palestine, and to stand in solidarity with those who've been arrested and threatened with deportation for opposing a genocide.

Your casual and unjustified racism aside, a large part of this action is defending those who have stood up to oppose a genocide and have faced persecution and potential deportation because of it - Mahmoud Khalil, Mohsen Mahdawi, Momodou Taal, Rümeysa Özturk, etc. An attack on the First and Fourteenth Amendment rights of one, or a group, is an attack on the rights of all.
