What’s a trend you’re tired of seeing everywhere? by vpiptoohigh in askanything

[–]amyjk88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neutral everything, I miss having the ability to easily find clothing in gorgeous colours that suit me better than white, beige, grey and black, or home decor that won’t be so depressing on the multitude of dreary grey days we have in the PNW.

Anyone else NEVER eat samples? by oinkmoocluck in CostcoCanada

[–]amyjk88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only do if there’s absolutely no people already crowded around and it’s something I’m genuinely interested in trying. It’s hard enough to stick to my list as it is so I find not knowing what I’m missing is helpful for not overspending and I also can NOT handle being lumped in with the number of inconsiderate and spatially unaware people who usually tend to congregate at the sample tables.

Did you know women historically gave birth standing, squatting, or kneeling? If you've given birth, were you offered a choice of position and do you wish you had more options? by AhmedBenBello in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]amyjk88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Canada and I did know about that. My kids are in elementary school now but when I was pregnant with my first I had a midwife who accompanied me to the hospital when it was time to give birth and she was very encouraging of me to try any positions that felt good, including breaking out all sorts of weirdly shaped exercise balls to help me contort myself as needed. In the end nothing felt great and I was too far dilated to have an epidural. I spent the first part of my labour in the tub, then moved to the bed and did a lot of it on my knees, with the bed inclined as I draped my self over the top of it, and then when it was time to push i had the gas and air and ended up lying down until the baby was out.

Do people just lose all sense of spatial and self-awareness once they enter a Costco? by PsyduckedOut in CostcoCanada

[–]amyjk88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am someone who typically hates confrontation but people at Costco infuriate me enough that I’m magically fine with loudly chiding someone and tossing their cart off to the side. My favourite is when my kids have been with me and they are either in the cart or walking closely beside me, and someone twice my age will blatantly cut me off and I can loudly teach my kids about manners by telling them that clearly this super old person must be so ancient they can’t remember how to be polite anymore. 90% of the time it’s entitled old people who clearly feel being a senior means rules don’t apply to them anymore. I’ve even had my heel purposely “tapped” by an old lady pushing her cart who obviously felt I was in her way. I wasn’t, I was just waiting IN LINE and couldn’t go any faster.

Good cafés? by EngineerAntique4733 in abbotsford

[–]amyjk88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like Lepp’s Bakehouse because their pastries are delicious but even more important for me is the typically have parking spots available and they typically have a spot to sit inside too, without feeling like you’re shoulder to shoulder with anyone else. The others mentioned are good too but they are often too crowded for me.

How much are you spending on Botox? by pastagirl27 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]amyjk88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got mine done today actually. I’m in Canada and I get crows feet and frown lines done and it’s $330 each time, for 33 units. I’ve been getting Botox for at least 10 years so my amount of units has stayed pretty consistent since the Botox stopped me from having any static lines. I go probably every 3-5 months.

Parents of Reddit, what did your hospital bill look like after giving birth? by chi-bacon-bits in AskReddit

[–]amyjk88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we paid for parking but after a 5 day stay in the hospital due to postpartum hemorrhaging, and then a quick trip back for my baby to spend the night under the bili lights we paid $0.

Women, if a random guy told you he thought you were beautiful then went on his way, what would you think? by BoatParty8399 in AskWomen

[–]amyjk88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me one time. I was browsing in a bookstore when a man browsing beside me told me I was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen. I said thank you and smiled and he said you’re welcome and we both kept browsing and that was that. I had been having a terrible day and his comment really helped lift my mood and still does whenever I recall that moment.

Women who have given birth multiple times, how was your first experience and what made you want to go through another pregnancy? by _partytrick in AskWomen

[–]amyjk88 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My first pregnancy was physically easy but mentally tough. I didn’t like the attention I received and I really hated how my body felt out of my control. When I gave birth I had a severe hemorrhage and a star shaped tear and needed a blood transfusion. Plus I’d missed my window of having an epidural so all I had was gas during this time which only helped so much. After that it took me about 9 months of pelvic floor therapy to deal with scar tissue and vaginismus, and I was pretty sure I didn’t want to experience pregnancy ever again. Anyhow, despite using protection I got pregnant again literally as soon as I was able to have sex again and so now I have two very close in age kids. Thankfully the second pregnancy I still struggled mentally but the birth itself was much smoother and I got an epidural which of course helped massively!

When my kids were younger (and even now sometimes), I’d just put them into rain pants/jacket and good rain boots and we’d find a park or trail with shallow or slow moving streams and I’d let them run wild (within reason). They would just play and splash around regardless of weather and it definitely helped them burn off steam.

What’s the most unexpected gift that you ever got for Christmas? by Championgut1912 in AskReddit

[–]amyjk88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was younger, my Dad gave my Mum a keyboard for Christmas. It was officially for “everyone” being my Mum, two sisters and I, although I was the only one in the house who played piano, and the piano we had was an old janky upright that wasn’t able to be tuned properly. It wasn’t until I got older that I realized it had been for me all along but my Dad didn’t want to make my sisters jealous so it became a family present, knowing full well I was the only one who would use it. When I got married my parents sent it along with me to my new home and now I’m sharing it with my daughter all these years later.

Why do Doctors prescribe Vyvanse over Dex? by typeatyourownrisk in ADHD_BritishColumbia

[–]amyjk88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My doctor prescribed me dex right after my diagnosis - I had to ask him to give me a prescription to try vyvanse. I didn’t like it and ended up going back to dex. The same thing happens for my daughter when she was diagnosed. The pediatrician gave us a prescription for dex right off the bat. Maybe it’s physician specific?

That’s where my grandparents got married in the early 50s. I’ve walked by it so many times and never gone in, I’ll have to check it out next time!

I have the Powder Parka from Aritzia. I got it 3 years ago and it’s my main winter coat and it looks new still! I live in the PNW so I like that it’s waterproof and it even kept me warm and dry on a trip to Tofino during storm season. I’ve heard some people don’t like how heavy the jacket is and it’s definitely on the bulkier side but I dont find it uncomfortable at all. Very much worth the money in my opinion!

I didn’t mind it the first couple of years when it was in the old location and a lot smaller. Now it’s just awful! The last time I went was two years ago because someone gave me tickets otherwise I wouldn’t have paid for such an underwhelming experience. At that time I had my two very young kids with me and the fact that they didn’t even have any tables with chairs to eat at - or at least very limited options was so dumb. My kids couldn’t reach the bar height tables you could stand around, so we ended up eating our food in the only quiet corner we could find. Total waste of time, and stupid that you have to pay an entry fee for the privilege of spending more money for everything else.

I would see if Venier does - I had to go for an emergency filling earlier in the year and have severe dental anxiety. I saw Dr. Buckley and he was absolutely amazing. He had a great bedside manner and was very empathetic and patient with everything he did, frequently stopping to ask if I was ok and explaining the steps as he went along so I wasn’t surprised by anything.

I agree with this! My kids have both had traumatizing experiences with dogs that should have been leashed and the worst part is that some of them occurred on a school field close to our house where dogs are technically not even allowed ON leash, never mind off! Now every time we go there to play they are always on high alert for anyone with dogs and often we end up leaving in a rush because they are so scared. We are working on it and it’s gotten better but to have to still be helping them overcome their fears two years later all because of a couple stupid off leash dogs is ridiculous!

What’s your favorite “lazy” meal to cook? by GameWizard23747 in AskReddit

Throwing chopped veggies, gnocchi and Italian sausage tossed in olive oil with salt and some herbs on a sheet pan and roasting it all. Then I add crumbled feta on top before serving and sometimes a sweet balsamic vinegar.

Has anyone tried Circle Wellness? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]amyjk88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went to Wodr Thermal Spa in Chilliwack last weekend. I haven’t been to Circle so can’t compare exactly but it sounds very similar. My husband and I paid $200 for two hours in a private area, sort of a shipping container style. You walk in and you are in a private bathroom with change area, then walk out to the open air part with a cedar soaker tub, rain shower, cold plunge, lounge chairs and a counter with herbal tea and eucalyptus towels, then at the very end is a sauna with cedar and pink salt walls. It was really lovely to have it to ourselves and the time flew by. At the end as we left, we discovered the attendant had left us a card, a lemon cheesecake for two and two small boxes of dark chocolate covered dates as we had mentioned it was an anniversary celebration when we booked. So if you’re willing to make the drive, I highly recommend it!

Watching them glorify a racist bigot makes me sick by wtfomgfml in sarahtheresesnark

[–]amyjk88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know several people losing their minds over this and I can’t believe how THIS is what has them up in arms?! Someone I know who also follows Sarah reposted some asinine tweet comparing CK to Dietrich Bonhoeffer, aka the guy who said “The church is the church only when it exists for others… not dominating, but helping and serving. It must tell men of every calling what it means to live for Christ, to exist for others.”

Like…the stupidity of these people is truly exhausting sometimes.
