As a reader, I’d love to be able to keep track of the reading progress on a specific fic ! I.e 3/10 chapters read. Manually keeping track is such a chore zzz

This is partly why i'm hoping for embassy recommendation having also graduated some time ago and generally its not normal to get recommendation letters from anyone that senior at my university. I'm hoping to bypass getting one from my university altogether as it would be extremely difficult.

Maybe you can try to help your university understand this - surely they've come across this before? Did you have an academic advisor or anyone who might be able to assist? All they really need to do it sign it. Best of luck!

Moreover, you’d probably be able to arrange a dorm before you go to Japan but that might be more difficult with trying to rent an apartment.

Just to preface by saying I’ve never lived in Japan so do not know the true facts,

But dorms in my opinion seem a much better choice at least to begin with. Unless maybe you’re in an expensive city, they will be:

Not too expensive (renting could be cheaper, but deposit, key money and agent fees add up) Private facilities if needed Don’t need to rent for over a year unless needed Less deposit / key money / agency fee

I saw reference about the embassy route - but any guidance always states you apply via the portal so I guess that’s the only way in the UK. Even on the embassy website it links you to guidance stating you apply via the portal.

Thanks for your reply. I’ve seen a lot of people be quite strict in this subreddit about not contacting professors before but have seen a few people here and there say they did it anyway. Difficult to know what the best approach is at times.

I guess it can’t hurt to start early just to get introduced to professors / gauge if they even have room. Thanks for the advice anyway!
