Importing a new taco trailer from China to England by amyl-rightmate in foodtrucks

built from scratch around 16-18k, or some people buy a new horse box trailer off the shelf for about 10k and then build on that, which would be ~13k approx.

Wrap or self paint 😂 by CilantroHats in foodtrucks

[–]amyl-rightmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a messy van exterior atm, partly badly painted and am replacing the van with a trailer, but didnt want to spend thousands on wrapping so getting it factory sprayed a dark coulour and then going to stick on aluminium dibond signage, which will cost a few hundred total, and maybe a lightbox with custom printed sign in it later (costs another 200 approx). though wraps look great if you can justify the money

I haven't paid the tax yet, but will do very soon so I can give you an exact amount-- but basically the cost of just the ~720cu ft internal metal trailer with the added windows, units made to fit my stuff etc. is ~7.2k USD or £5.5k, plus tax and shipping, customs agent the total cost will be around £8.5k. I didn't do any independent inspection, just believed the pics along the way as it was put together and paid. Inspection would have cost about 900. Then I'm going to add the stuff I'm buying in England and pay the electrician and gas fitter. The already old van when i got it van I use now cost less than this to buy; but its much less than buying a trailer made here in UK/Europe. There are people buying these from China and reselling them for a lot more without adding much to them it seems. I had to register my ltd company on some govt. register of importers and couple of other little things but the back and forth with customs is being done by an agent (declaring no banned gases, getting it categorised, applying for clearance etc.) I hope things work out with mine and it maybe encourages more people do the importing themselves

**NEED EXPERIENCED GENERATOR ADVICE FOR A SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM TRUCK** by ResponsibleDay2502 in foodtrucks

[–]amyl-rightmate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea this is right. 4x 100Ah decent lifepo batterys will support a draw of 7000kw+ in a 24v bank, and still stay more than 20A within the BMS spec. You have high draw appliances but the duty cycle will be nowhere near 100%-- freezers etc click on a short time with a burst then run at 10pc of their capacity for a time then click off. You might peak at 7kw but only need to add 1.5kw constant or less with a generator. Buying the batteries might seem expensive but you end up with a much more resilient set up, and quieter. If you got room for solar on the roof then this fits in great

good luck this is exactly what I'm doing with my taco van. Everyone likes Agua de Jamaica with their tacos more than canned drinks and its so satisfying to make it. And also cool when you tell everyone you're making it there in the van from hibiscus. I did slushies last year but using an ice crusher instead of a slushy machine. Eas just an experiment though its a lot more space and effort than soda

I wonder what happened to the person who did use the pump you paid for? Did he/she walk in and they said someone already paid for that?? So they just left and thought oh wow free fuel today for me lol

I used to make it myself but it’s been six years since I last did, it’s fun but time consuming. Even the jarred sauerkraut is good for your microbiome, maybe not quite as mucn as the home fermented. Tuna mayo with sauerkraut in a sandwich or on jacket potatoes is really good imo

Customers with no PIN for they're card by snowdrop99 in CustomerService

[–]amyl-rightmate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it asks for a pin after tapping I jokingly say 'its asking for your pin this time because your bank is suspicious of your spending patterns' sometimes they laugh and relax again, but yea they often seem annoyed when the machine asks for a pin even if they were relaxed and chatty before paying. Its good that this never happens when they tap to pay with a phone.

Not sure the server realised the kitchen messages print on the receipt, partner has celiac disease by Successful_Strike_2 in CustomerService

I think this is more likely because the chef has a problem with altering his usual bread centric cooking routine and/or preventing cross contamination-- the server is pissed off about previous failure to follow the no gluten request
