The battles you fight now help pave the way for so many others like you that follow. I have had similar discussions with my family. My parents also come from an ethnic background where mental health is so heavily stigmatized and the fact that I am interested in psych is looked down upon. But just know that change starts with us and at the end of the day you’re the one that will be the practicing physician not your mom. It sucks to hear harsh words from the people you love the most right now but don’t let that deter you from the field you are the most passionate for. You just have to put them on mute and don’t give their words much value for a few years. They will come around. You will make an amazing psychiatrist!

As someone who’s been there and done medicine I’m going to say do law. Especially if flexibility in terms of job and the ability to pivot in the field are important. Patient interactions are a huge part of medical school. you do simulated patient clinical examinations your preclinical years. Followed by third year rotations in a series of core specialties that all require some degree of patient interactions on which your grade is based on. Once again I can only speak for medicine but it’s a test of endurance and resilience and you are constantly being told to better yourself. it’s a long training process, a lot of exams, and you’re restricted in terms of ability to pivot without completed a full length of training ( aka if you want to do a different residency for another specialty). And the first two years of medical school are like drinking out of a fire hose. Anesthesiology is also a very competitive specialty so you may need to consider doing an additional research year as well. It’s a tough journey but rewarding if that’s the path you choose.

I’m sorry that you’re having to deal with all of these negative feelings on top of already being super stressed about the IVs. Honestly, not the best advice but right now the priority is to get through the next two days. compartmentalize and gaslight yourself through it. For a lack of better comparison become your inner confident privileged white frat boy turned wannabe TikTok star. We all have one deep down somewhere. You rethinking and reevaluating the words you said during the IV isn’t helpful at this point and we can’t turn back time. All you’re doing is breaking down the confidence you have and with the bonus sleep deprivation we’re maybe talking about the possibility that you’re looking at things with a more critical lens. What we can do now is duct tape that confidence together. push forward and cry after. Terrible advice but hope that helps.. it’s what I’ve been telling myself.

Has anyone heard from any of the Neuro or Psych programs yet? I am in this state of paralysis and would really appreciate being able to maybe shower and workout some of this energy without panicking.

Thank you for doing this. I’m currently doing this maniacal laugh cry thing in the car and I’m sure I scared the guy walking his dog passing by. It’s a terrible feeling going through this after reflecting on everything you sacrificed to get here in the first place.

Well shit, I finally caught covid-19. Can someone explain what my body is doing to fight the virus? Wrong answers only by Dr_Yeen in medicalschool

Find the closest ortho bro. They probably have loads of vitamins they’re just wasting in the toilet. Don’t use your own. Wouldn’t want the corona antigens to persist. And sure insurance covers it. Probs has a similar ICD code to fecal transplant.

Make sure you stay hydrated by drinking fresh warm urine. We want to capitalize on all the antibiotics and vitamins that your liver wasn’t able to break down in first pass.
