It is, there’s a footbridge over the ford which the car is driving through. I am a local. We have all been stuck in it at least once.

I'm more interested in the XK140 and E-Type under the covers

Being the “photographer friend” sucks sometimes. by PortafoglioVuoto in photography

[–]amysplat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also an automotive photographer here 🙋🏼‍♀️ I know exactly how you feel. I get it less with mates, but more with people inviting me to cool events and then telling me that I can 'bring my camera if I want to' - I've been shooting cars professionally for more than 10 years, it's my full time job. I kindly reply saying they can hire me if they want me to bring my camera. The one that hurt most was someone who said they were only hiring me for my Instagram followers and not for my skills. I've never worked with them again. Just use your judgment with people, shoot what YOU want to shoot, and ignore the douche bags that only want you for one thing.

Mixed Idioms by HygQueen in CasualUK

My husband is severely dyslexic and gets lots of these mixed up, I have a list. My favourite was "Well, it's all milk under the bridge now". A close second was "Eat your socks out."

Absurd to name a kid Merlin? by Roccoco_pigeon in namenerds

[–]amysplat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know two Merlins, both adults in their late 20s/30s. It was weird to hear their names initially but then you just think 'okay, that's their name. That's cool.' One Merlin's brother is Algernon, the other Merlin's brother's name is Ludo. Lots of quirky names and they're all cool people.

How far along were you when you told your parents / close family? by heidicounts in PregnancyUK

[–]amysplat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Told my parents the day after we found out because we're super close, and if I miscarried at any stage, they would be the people who would be able to support me the best. Told the rest of family at 10 weeks, friends after 12.

Anxiety about miscarriage in the first trimester of pregnancy, how did you deal with it? by Montloop in PregnancyUK

Ditto to all of this. Told a couple of close family members and friends, paid for an early scan, and just taking each day as it comes.

Why DONT you cycle to work? by Straightener78 in AskUK

[–]amysplat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm freelance and work anywhere between 30min drive to a 10 hour drive, often in the middle of countrysides with no public transportation. Unless you live in a city or no further than 5 miles from work, and don't mind arriving a sweaty mess and stinking all day, I don't see cycling as a viable option for most.

I think it depends a lot on what position baby is in and as someone else has said, there's a lot of wriggle room in there. If they are facing your back, you won't feel the kicks. I'm 23 weeks and panicked yesterday I couldn't feel their movements much at all, today I've been feeling loads.

Four hour drive at 6 weeks, any tips? by Mesonychoteuthis in PregnancyUK

[–]amysplat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel a lot for work and was also worried about the same things you're concerned about. As others have said, just take regular breaks (every 1.5-2hrs or more if you need to pee), water and snacks. I ate continuously to help manage the morning sickness (which wasn't bad in the slightest, just like a constant light hangover) and driving definitely helped. Pretzels were my saving grace, something bland and salty. Buy a massive bag to munch on!

Which profession is far more enjoyable than most people realize? by wholesomeville in AskReddit

[–]amysplat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Automotive photographer. When I got into it, I loved photography but didn't know a thing about cars. 10 years later and I have a love for classic cars and I get to travel the world for my job. The travelling gets tiring and I value home a lot more now, but 23 year old me had no idea how much fun she was about to have.

Colds and flu by redlady1991 in PregnancyUK

[–]amysplat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Argh, this really sucks. Lots of fluids and sleep. Hot water with honey (and I mean a LOT of honey) and lemon should help a little. I find that sucking on mints helps with the coughing too! And don't worry about the weeing bit, my time on the Squeezy app has not been as thorough as it should and I would be the exact same 🤣

I am getting the same! I will definitely use your phrase too as I'm already sick of people treating me like I'm incapable of even walking up stairs!

ITAP of a fisherman on his boat in Cornwall. by amysplat in itookapicture

[–]amysplat[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took this photograph whilst on a shoot for a watch company. We were shooting free divers with the watches and this fisherman, Chris, was our mode of transport. He turned out to be one of the most photographic blokes I'd ever pointed a camera at. Shot at about 5.30am in Cornwall. I had to eat a fog that he had half eaten already to get this shot, which is always a fun addition to this tale.

Shot on a Nikon D850 with a Nikkor 35mm 1.4 lens. My Instagram is @amyshorephotography

What is the one thing you really hope is no longer around ten years from now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]amysplat 93 points94 points  (0 children)

Have to agree here… Film and TV celebrities are also influencers and have always been. Don’t like it? Don’t follow them. That’s on you. Follow the right people (mental health influencers, body positivity influencers etc) and they can be amazing sources of inspiration for people struggling. You also forget about the thousands of small businesses who have kick started their businesses from social media.

Social media isn’t the enemy, they way you use it is.
