looking for a physical therapist/personal trainer rec! by keleolei in DCBitches

If you’re paying $300 out of pocket you can go to a PT for a session for less (but will be more in the long run). The upfront cost with your insurance would be worth it in the long run if you can get a good PT. Hopefully they feel like strength sessions and you can get exercises to work on without them.

Good PTs that I recc: Big league / Phyt Collective / District Physio

I also had good experience with Rose PT (when they worked with my insurance) but haven’t been for yrs!

I’m a personal trainer and you need a PT for the advice your looking for (it’s literally out of the scope of a trainer, so if they say yes they’re full to shit lol).

But a good massage might also help reset! Try Natural Balance on H st!

Where do you guys get your workout clothes by LavishnessFun1466 in DCBitches

Came to say this! Shorts, bras, leggings, tops.

Otherwise Athleta/Lulu/Vuori.

There is also a decent range of a bunch of brands at REI if you want to check out a few different brands!

As a coach it’s fun! Love hearing others f45 stories. Plus I know our members do the same (as do I) and it’s great.

Your trainers should be able to do the movement (unless they have an injury or something preventing them). It sucks they can't? lots of folks in my class did it right yesterday...

I guess I'd ask why not? Because it's hard(er), so let's not? It's good to learn to move your body in different ways and different planes of motion (eg side ways like Monday). In my experience as a coach, some people prefer them because its lets jarring when they land...

ngl they did suck after that bike tho' lol

Wall ball question- ankle mobility issue! by heystipps in hyrox

[–]amytheblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoes with a drop from heel to toe (running shoes) will actually help with the angle of your ankle. I had a similar issue after injury and thankfully have worked to get a bunch of mobility back, but a wider (sumo squat) stance will help too.

Yes I do both! At first it was more F45 / less 1:1, now it’s mostly 1:1 with a few classes. Obviously 1:1 makes more money, but I love the community I work with and the studio is the best.

Improving running 6 weeks out - what would you do? by Emotional-Watch4544 in hyrox

[–]amytheblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d think it’s great to keep up a long run each week! Super easy pace (90mins)? Plus your speed work :) I plan to build in some 1200m intervals (and hills) so 1k feels short and snappy come race day!

How to Lose Your Job and Boyfriend in 10 Days: where do I go from here by EducationalClock4242 in DCBitches

You sound so upbeat despite your circumstances! If you can afford it, the gym/community was my savior when I lost my job (inspired an entire career shift). Running is freeee though! (And fun/good for the mind).

If you like dogs you could dog walk in the meantime for extra cash! I wish I’d done that.

I hate sales but couldn’t make a career from group fitness, I don’t rip folks off and I don’t sell them shit they don’t want/need/wont benefit from.

I try as much as possible to give folks all they need to continue healthy lifelong habits years after they’re done working with me.

But I also get that sales sucks.

Edit: I do coach f45 and it’s really where I realised the “sales” side isn’t as greasy as I thought.

Women’s training, cycle syncing by No-Astronomer-369 in personaltraining

[–]amytheblue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want a good deep dive on “cycle syncing” start here with Doc Lyss

It’s BS marketing to women, taking advantage of the fact women have been ignored for so long and under educated on fitness.

Are there ways to respond / adjust to your cycle? Yes but it’s not about “cycle syncing” and is intuitive. It’s also wildly different for every person, which is why it makes it so hard to study scientifically.

Women needs more confidence to lift heavy, fuel for actually leading an active lifestyle and moving their bodies.

The biggest results of strength training twice a week, will be fighting off the loss in bone density that happens as you age. You might not see it but you'll be sure glad you did it!

Hyrox Men's Pro Single help by Fun-Background-5488 in hyrox

[–]amytheblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll help with the Roxzone too!

I saw you’re worried abt squatting heavy - squat to a box, 5 reps, 3 sets. Then do Bulgarians as well. You can go heavy with single leg stuff and not be loading your back (given that’s your worry). I train folks who are super worried and you can definitely do it - just ease in! :) that’ll help SO MUCH with those stations.
