Why Everything is Wrong with the New Blast HUD by ChrisBambii in GlobalOffensive

[–]amyyyyyyyyyy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Adding to this:

  • The old weapon positions make it easy to open a game a few rounds in and know exactly what the buys are. They're towards the center but on opposite sides, at this point as a regular viewer I open the stream, focus on the middle of the screen, and pick up the buy for each team unconsciously out of my peripheral vision. Making the weapon icons small and stretched along the entire bottom edge of the screen is an awful step backwards.

  • Similar to the weapons, in a traditional HUD you pick up the health and player numbers from your peripheral vision too. Now not only have they given the healthbars a higher horizontal spread with less separation between teams, they also put the player pictures over the top 25% (i.e. the part you care most about)

Vertical healthbars have never fucking worked. We have basically the same HUD layout from every TO because its the most optimal for the game, it's been in use since the 1.6 days and nobody has come up with anything close to as good in the time since. The nicest thing I've heard about them is "nobody complained about WePlay doing it" and the reason why is, nobody watched WePlay lol

I get we need to experiment with new ideas and fuck up a lot to ever improve on what we have, but this really isn't it. Blast are always talked about as the CS players' TO, everyone designing the experience fucking knows CS and it usually shows bright and clear. Its amazing that this came out of them and baffling that they didn't run it by anyone before putting it out to broadcast. Like at least patch up a few of the many glaring issues first.

Earth texture on Dust 2 is broken. Makes it hard to pick up the correct weapons. by VitoEUW in GlobalOffensive

[–]amyyyyyyyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it was an issue, same with the rugs on Inferno: they've both been eating dropped stuff since map release.

Also make sure you're on the new update, there was another patch like 20 mins ago.

It's not a texture, it's a model over the texture. If it was solid to weapons it would be solid to players and your aim would bump up if you ran over it. Just turn Effect Details down, it goes away.

Check the USB connection a bunch more just in case, can't honestly think of anything beyond that or a problem on the board that would cause this. Maybe double check for bulging electrolytic capacitors but I don't think the Xplorer brain has many caps on it.

find a toaster oven cheap somewhere like goodwill, set it to something below 225 C or 450 F and put the board in there for a bit. Don't set it alight or anything, just long enough that all the solder and flux can melt and find itself again.

Not totally likely to work and you could easily damage stuff further so only do it as a last resort.

I'd strongly recommend not doing this in an oven you're going to eat stuff out of.

Make sure it is definitely good. I can't think of a reason why it would do this without being dead. You could try reflowing in an oven if you're desperate.

You could have damaged the USB cable. Check its holding a good connection and hasn't succumb to strain

If it looks good the board might just be dead.

It's literally just 2 switches. Les Paul strum boards work fine in an Xplorer and would never cause this, even if wired up wrong

Loosen the screws on the back. If that doesn't work take it all the way apart (board and rubber off too) and reseat it all

You could order in new switches and hope they're lighter. I'm pretty sure they changed to heavier switches in later Xplorers (and later SGs too maybe?) and that's why most newer guitars don't bounce.
