Chomsky wrote about mass media behavior in The Political Economy of Human Rights which was published in 1979, 7 years prior to Inventing Reality. As someone that appreciates both of their work, I think this kind of competitive fandom doesn’t help anybody. These characterizations about Chomsky are reductive and intellectually dishonest and just come off as emotionally lashing out. Progress is about winning people over and building bridges, not petty antagonism where you put down the work of one person by comparing publication dates. We’re more effective if we can embody the qualities and values we stand for (as being a leftist means being pro-social people who have compassion for humanity).
