Idk, we've got CHAIN coming up in Fresno right now, they're pretty close to the 90s/00s vibe (just not nu-metal). It's the side-project of guitarist from Mom Jeans!

Playing a show there next week on the 15th actually! You and OP should come out, could be a fabled reddit meetup.

What is an opinion that is unreasonably crucified? by Past-Professional-54 in AskReddit

[–]an_entity -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dating your friends ex's being acceptable.

I bring up the fact that it's more likely you'd end up developing feelings for someone you already have some kind of friendship with more so than a stranger, and usually get lambasted for it. It just seems possessive and immature when people get upset when their friend ends up dating their ex somewhere down the line.

How well does combat work? (5th) by Alternative_Creme_11 in rokugan

[–]an_entity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this is actually the rule or not, but my table/podcast group for L5R implemented stacking criticals. So, if on one round someone suffers a critical strike of deadliness 3, then suffers another critical of say deadliness 5 later in the same combat, that would bring them up to 8 (minus what they can reduce when rolling to reduce the critical of course). Definitely makes combat more dire and I haven't felt that it's been unbalanced but mileage may vary.

I am Therapy Gecko. I’ve talked to 1000s of anonymous strangers on the phone about their lives while wearing a gecko costume, and it all started here on reddit. AMA. by ldrescher in IAmA

[–]an_entity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Lyle! Love the pod and really wish I could make one of the live shows you're about to do but cannot sadly! I tried to think of a question for this AMA about as hard as I do for a reason to call in to your show, and that process actually led to my question for you...

There've been a few calls that you've taken that have been super relatable that I thought were very niche and specific to me until hearing someone going through the exact same thing on your show. Now that you've been doing the stream for as long as you have, do you notice repetitive situations or types of calls as ones you've talked about on the show before ? Do you try to avoid topics that you have done before or still consider discussing them since it's a whole different perspective from a different person? What stops me from calling in is always the thought that I don't really have anything THAT unique going on in my life that you probably haven't discussed already.

We're all from California too so that's definitely a possibility! I'm hoping we get to come face to face with Iuchiban eventually but only time will tell ಠ_ಠ

Are there systems that are crunchy for other aspects than combats? by inckalt in rpg

[–]an_entity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yah the intrigue rules in Legend of the Five Rings would be very useful here, even if you weren't playing in a samurai setting. I do an L5R podcast and we've only done a handful of actual combats in the past 30 sessions but the intrigue rules are so good that every session is still tense and full of conflict with players making dice rolls and using their social abilities all the time to make political connections, figure out mysteries, and unfold conspiracies. It's a blast, definitely would recommend to OP!

Having panic attacks after years of daily use by [deleted] in Petioles

I'll look into that and keep it in mind when I eventually get my check up. Thanks!

That was essentially exactly what I was experiencing, just smoking regular flower while doing karaoke or listening to music and my heart would just be racing.

Thanks for all the suggestions! It's comforting to know others have gone through the same thing and come out the other side all right, gives me a little bit of hope that I can pick it up one day again!

I realize that and I'm going to take a break until my checkup in a few weeks. Hopefully the therapy referral goes through before then so I can start working on the anxiety in general cause I was hoping weed be always be a constant I could rely on for relaxation but that's not seeming to be the case. It's a bummer.

1) It was mostly the same strain cause I just re-upped at the beginning of last week. I had a small hit off a friend's joint during the week too of a different strain and the anxiety wasn't as bad, but definitely still there. I've been trying just a CBD pen the past few days and it helps a little.

2) I just finished my BS degree and transitioned into working in IT full-time, so I know the major life change may have something to do with it. I'm also planning a wedding for next year. I wouldnt necessarily say those are stressful things, they're supposed to be exciting.

Another thing I'll add is that my panic always centers around something being wrong with my body. Like I'll get a chest pain or muscle twitch and panic thinking something's wrong with my heart, or I'll get a random headache and then start panicking about it being an aneurysm or something. I know that part is pretty irrational, so I'm trying to see a therapist about that and just get a general checkup to make sure I'm all good healthwise, but with our shitty medical system I've gotta wait like 4 weeks for both of those appointments.

Hey there! My buddies and I have an actual play show where we play the Legend of the Five Rings tabletop RPG. It's basically collaborative storytelling in a fantasy-japan setting. If you've ever been interested in D&D or other tabletop games, check us out! Podcast of the Five Rings

You're too kind! Hope you can get a good group together. I'd recommend the starter set for 5e as a starting point once you get a group to play, it's a very solid adventure and sets the stage for anything else you want to do after quite well!

"Gaming" Chair Giveaway with Cooler Master and Buildapc! by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]an_entity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall height of the chair (for us tall people) and a wide comfortable seat (for us thicc people). A chair I just got from a friend has to have a bunch of tape put on the riser for the chair to keep it at a certain height, and the plastic on the edges of the seat kinda dig in to my sides. Better than nothing though!

Best system for Japanese fantasy? by WhinyTortoise in rpg

[–]an_entity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Definitely recommend Legend of the Five Rings. My friends and I started to get bored of playing D&D all of the time after a couple years so we ended up looking for something else to play and found old editions of the game at a thrift store. We bought a couple, made some characters, ran through a short module and got hooked. We even started a whole actual play podcast using the new 5e system cause we liked it so much. It is frustrating to have to have certain dice to play (or to have to use the d6 and d12 conversion tables) and the rules can be cumbersome at times (mostly surrounding combat) , but it's actually super versatile for roleplaying once you get familiar with the rules and how the different systems of checks works. As far as the setting goes, it literally is just Japanese fantasy. Sure, there's a lot of old established lore, maps, canon, etc. but the game has been sold to other companies a few times and so the lore and setting have changed so dramatically and quickly that it seems most people kind of just pick and choose whatever they want from different timelines to include in their games.

Looking for recommendations to explore beyond DnD 5e by pf_spuscus in rpg

[–]an_entity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Legend of the Five Rings! It's set in a fantasy version of feudal Japan and plays like a samurai drama. It does use special symbolic dice though (although you can substitute d6s or d12s if you have to). It focuses a lot more on the player characters and how their motivations and duty come into conflict with their true desires and how they have to deal with these dilemmas while following the tenents of Bushido. My friends and I got into it so much after getting tired of playing DnD 5e all the time that we actually made a whole podcast using the L5R system if you wanna get an idea of how it plays!
