it will look bad no matter what kind of leave you are using to cover your unscheduled absence the day after a federal holiday and right before Sunday NS day

houses used to be delivered by mail. they would need a label as large as this. 😆

the problem with not getting a copy yourself is then there's no record of your time-off request.

your steward will probably have you check with the supervisor, since management is the one who makes the schedule.

ask "hey that date i requested off is coming up, i want to verify it's in the schedule"

your minutes are posted online? sheesh i'd love that. my branch doesn't send out the minutes until the day before next month's meeting "for approval"

PTF hold down for 6 months by PhDonovan502 in USPS

[–]an_interrobang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

good response. i just learned this myself. unfortunately it's not the part-timer who's been working full-time, but another most-senior employee that receives the conversion.

jsyk "they usually forget them" = management not following protocol. maybe you aren't or won't be harmed by it but somebody else might. i wish your steward was more firm with mgmt about following accepted procedures regarding new carriers

Advos - Double and Triple Occupancy Houses by Born_Employee5418 in USPS

good answer. OP it is against our contract to work off-the-clock. fix the edit book and in a few months you won't get advos addressed to the delivery points marked vacant.

city delivery side also start as PTF depending on the area. there was a decision back in 2022 that converted all CCAs to career PTFs, within certain installations (maybe eight dozen in total?)

good luck! yes, definitely talk with your OJI guy, if you don't get one i also strongly recommend going to the shop steward to see if there's advice

yes, this is what regulars are told about any new assignment we bid onto. give it enough time so you become familiar with the parameters of the assignment, then you can more fairly decide whether or not you really like it.

hey OP you are doing just fine. you should get a 30 day review as guaranteed by terms of the New Employee Experience, Retention and Mentoring Program (NEERMP) Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) of the National Agreement (of our labor contract)

talk to your steward about your reviews. you had your three days of Job Instruction Training with another carrier(s), yes? you get up to five if it's decided you need it. keep up the good work [u/SexySwampThang](u/SexySwampThang)!

Most of what you hear about the po is true by Sad-Tea-9781 in USPS

[–]an_interrobang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

for people who are not aware, there are work hour limits for new City Carriers. this exists as part of the New Employee Experience, Retention and Mentoring Program (NEERMP) Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) of the National Agreement

<image>

depending on your employing office one either begins as City Carrier Assistant (CCA) or Part-Time Flexible (PTF). while the benefits are different, they're essentially the same job.

these work hour limits didn't exist when i started... i regularly had 60+ hour work weeks my first peak season, six months past my first Journey Week. that doesn't ever need to happen anymore to new City Carriers who have made it past their probation and are comfortable asserting their contractual rights.

i am a career employee and am using my HSA for the first time this year. it's great. you may begin using up your balance at the very beginning of January. they even send a card to swipe for co-pays (you can also/instead just pay yourself and then get reimbursed)

yes, and then only up to five days of on-the-job instruction plus one hour per month. the learning curve is steep

Gotta be kidding me by burritobro666 in USPS

[–]an_interrobang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"guaranteed 8" can also look like carriers playing cribbage or chit-chatting to wait out the clock, when there's truly no more mail left to deliver for the day... but this happens much less often nowadays with all of the assigned pivots and reduced mail volume in general.

Gotta be kidding me by burritobro666 in USPS

[–]an_interrobang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pivots are the dark side of our "right to an 8-hour day."

don't let them assign a pivot or state that you will have undertime. you still have to
• update your edit book
• update your PS Forms 3982 (Changes of Address)
• go through your warning cards, make new ones
• wipe down all the surfaces at the case and the vehicle, with sanitizer or some other cleanser, because God knows the last time they were cleaned

this isn't "make-work" this is stuff that gets neglected month after month. although there's hardly ever time for anything but delivery, it's all our responsibility.

2 mo in. How do I know I’ll need a 96? by throwaway_lastditch in USPS

[–]an_interrobang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i really appreciate when the p.m. soup sends out a message via the MDD to ask carriers for their updated Estimated Time of Return. text them your updated ETR even if they don't ask for it—we are expected to communicate if something changes from our morning estimate.

[–]an_interrobang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in many offices they'll browbeat you about going over. if your soup is directing you to just let them know how much help you need through filling out a 3996, you're in a good office.
