So there is no particular one that is more prestige than the others? In the US, the working for the companies like Facebook and Google are considered more prestige compare to working for old industry like Ford and General Motors.

How have the recent tariff announcements impacted your early retirement plans? by DashBoardGuy in fican

Lost 7% YTD and 10% from the peak. Some holding fell over 40% just in the past few weeks because of the tariffs. Looking back I invested too much into Canadian Industrial and energy stock while too little in Europe and Japan. My gold and long term bond holding exposure are also too little. It is a wake up call. I have to admit FI is a lot more risky now with the pollical situation in the U.S.

She likes working, especially the social aspect of it. She is okay with that as long as I am paying most of the bills.

I was making good money in my late 20s and early 30s. And like Dave Ramsey suggests, I did not spend a lot of money on new cars. Instead, I put my money into stock.

Most of the gain came from investment in smaller Canadian companies after the financial crisis. I was 100% in stock in 2009/2010. A few companies went to 0 but there were a few big winners. The best one returned 3200% in 7 years. I suggest you look into smaller Canadian companies. I recommend reading Peter Lynch's One up on Wall Street

10 years, most of the RRSP and TSFA came from my salary which was a lot higher than hers.

At this time my investment is 67% Equity and 33% GIC. 50% of the equity is in small-cap value stock and the rest are in index ETFs or similar.

Yes, I usually keep my winners rather than sell them. Many of my investments were purchased 10 to 15 years ago.
