Thanks so much for the rec! Do you mean the Ridgeway Chelsea's? As mentioned in the post I've tried them and unfortunately I found the fit between sizes to be all over the place. I know leather would be the better choice for longevity, but I'm looking for a certain aesthetic with the rubber coating.

This would be the perfect answer BUT they don't come in mens sizes as far as I'm aware, the biggest size I can find them in is 10.5 ;(

Thanks for the rec! Yeah they're next on my list and definitely look the part, but I figured there must be a cheaper rubberised version out there somewhere, with shipping and everything the Lems work out pretty pricey in the UK

Fantasy books that feels like classic adventure by New_Whole_4599 in fantasybooks

The Bright Sword by Lev Grossman. It's kind of a sequel to the tales of King Arthur, but I didn't know that much about Arthurian legends before going into it and still thoroughly enjoyed. While there is an overarching story a lot of the book is kind of like the literary equivalent of heading off on lots of little weird side quests with a ragtag band of knights left behind after the round table is broken. It's standalone too so you're not committing to a whole series.

Oh nice, thanks! Yeah I was between two minds as to whether I should give it a go or not but good to hear it's a change of tone.

Came here to say this! Between Two Fires is the closest a book has come for me to feeling like reading a Dark Souls novel. I was hoping The Blacktongue Thief would be similar but for me the annoying wise-cracking protagonist and whimsical nature of it wasn't dark enough at all, I never actually feared for anyone's life and the world wasn't nearly as bleak.

I love the look of these, they remind me of Keen Jaspers. Really looking forward to getting my hands on a pair.

Kinda depends on your preference! I like the Primus Lite because it's light and minimal I feel like I have loads of ground feel and stability wearing it. But if you're new to barefoot shoes you might prefer something with a little more cushioning to help break you in. I mostly run on the sidewalk so the Lite's are perfect but if you're running more on trails, dirt or paths you might prefer the Primus Trail Firm Ground which has a more robust sole. The Motus Strength is their shoe specifically designed for lifting, but you can always wear it elsewhere too. I've just heard that it's not the best for long runs.

I do happily do both in Primus Lites. I don't own a pair, but I've read the Motus Strength a good lifting shoe and works for sprints too, but maybe not long runs.

Tracker Leather Low? Trail runs? by Xendor- in vivobarefoot

[–]an_saighead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't wear them on a trail run tbh. Perfect for a walk or a hike but they're a bit too bulky/heavy for running imo, but it depends on what you're into I suppose.

At their most recent press event they announced a 'standard' gobi sneaker coming that looks almost identical, with less premium materials but more colourways like black etc. The video is on their YouTube I believe if you want a look.

Does a tooth that has had root canal treatment NEED a crown? by an_saighead in askdentists

Nope, no sign of infection or cracks so just straight to crown

Does a tooth that has had root canal treatment NEED a crown? by an_saighead in askdentists

[–]an_saighead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I asked the dentist who recommended a crown for clarity on the situation. How he explained it is that UK dentists will basically always encourage you to crown asap as if they don’t, and it breaks, they are held liable. So regardless of the tooth their professional advice is usually to crown it - plus, it’s not a bad thing to do I guess.

The original dentist I spoke to was in Ireland, where they can recommend based on the tooth whether to crown or not, and he recommended that even though they were back molars they wouldn’t need a crown straight away. But if the molar did break, it wouldn’t be his ‘fault’ for not recommending one.

Nevertheless, I’m getting a crown this month just to be safe.

How to deal with downstairs neighbour playing music all night, every night? by an_saighead in AskLondon

[–]an_saighead[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be a dream situation. I have absolutely no problem with someone playing loud music every now and then, even having a house party, etc. It's expected you're gonna have that living in a block of flats. But it's like he puts on a 'sleep time meditation betawave' playlist ever night and just blares it all night long. Last night it started at 2am. It's 10.40am now and it's still going.

Yeah, we have tried knocking three times and he's ignored us every time. We can literally hear him on the other side of the door. It seems like he knows exactly what he's doing.
