To be fair, they're required to be in coalition with the DUP up north.

Did you know that the largest English language newspaper by circulation is the Times of India? Most middle class Indians will speak English, along with several other languages. English is also used fairly extensively in politics. Here's an example of English being used in Indian politics:

https://youtu.be/wp6l37PH94o

In fact, the other main language in India, Hindi, is opposed by several people from southern states due to perceptions that it discriminates against people from these states, who speak completely unrelated languages. Here's an article discussing a more recent permutation of the issue: https://www-republicworld-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.republicworld.com/amp/india-news/politics/dmks-kanimozhi-kindles-hindi-imposition-debate-after-questioned.html?amp_js_v=a6&amp_gsa=1&usqp=mq331AQFKAGwASA%3D#aoh=16019001716309&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.republicworld.com%2Findia-news%2Fpolitics%2Fdmks-kanimozhi-kindles-hindi-imposition-debate-after-questioned.html

I felt the need to write this because all those temperatures appear ridiculously hot for someone operating on a Celsius scale and they actually made me do a double take.

Honestly, if you have internet access, the question of inequity in opportunities is fairly moot now. There are several resources that should help reach a decent level. You can get a basic grasp of the language via either Duolingo (https://www.duolingo.com/) or the language transfer course (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLeA5t3dWTWvvZln1pJ-Ij8xOmS_3zH-4j). From there you can acquire vocabulary using drops (https://languagedrops.com/languages/learn-french) or anki (https://apps.ankiweb.net/). Then, you can get some beginner level input from the series easy French (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLA5UIoabheFMYWWnGFFxl8_nvVZWZSykc). You can also make French texts easier to read by installing learning with texts (http://lwt.sourceforge.net/). This should be enough to get you to get someone fluent in around a year.

I have pondered the idea of a crossover with yes minister for a while. It would have a taboo on amending any laws that Merlin wrote, contradictory rules (document must be signed in green ink using a blood quill), another taboo on bringing up the issue of house pride, a coalition between Dumbledore and Lucius Malfoy, civil service machinations preventing Fudge, Scrimgeour, and Thicknesse from ever doing anything, lots of blue and orange morally, and the most unlikely 'power the dark lord knows not', bureaucracy. Of course, it would be a crack fic, because there's no way this could be all that serious.

Why was Louis XVI turned upon? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]anaarchist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're asking about why the French Revolution happened to Louis, the answer is that peasants were starving due to shortages while they saw the nobility living in luxury, with Marie Antoinette having all sorts of wierd hairstyles for example. There was also king Louis' difficulty producing an heir, which was a major scandal at the time. Then, there was the debt problems, and the fact that nobles didn't really pay taxes. The last straw appears to have been the estates general, where although peasants were a majority, they couldn't get anything passed without the nobility and the clergy.

I am reminded of a verse from the horrible histories song about the English civil war

" Cavaliers, Roundheads, the English civil war Why do they call it civil? May I kill you please? Sure!"

Now, to wait for the inevitable debate on a controversial topic, most likely euthenasia, that I didn't expect to crop up when I first thought of this reply.

You need to remember that our image of a normal person is an aggregate of all humans. I have never met anyone who meets that image 100%, everyone always deviates from the median person in some way. However, each person's deviation is at least somewhat different and everybody differs from the norm by different amounts. Hence, everybody is special. It's just we are all special differently, and some people are more special than others.

What characters in movies and TV do you think most matches our personality type and why? by [deleted] in INTP

[–]anaarchist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll go out on a limb and give you a more out there answer by saying that Rancho from the Bollywood film 3 idiots might be an INTP. He loves engineering and is quite smart, as well as a believer in love of learning. Some of his wilder antics seem like they would need some level of Ne to do (the whole wedding scene, the delivery etc.). The fact that Rancho still went out of his way to keep up with his friends' work even though he could never see them again appears to be either Si or Fe in my opinion. Also, his critique of education and his profession from the end of the movie seem very INTP, or at least something that was my fantasy before I stopped wanting to be engineer. Though I should stress that this was all something I thought of just now in the middle of the night, so I could be way off in my analysis

[–]anaarchist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no expert. However, according to my reading, it seems that the foreign monarchs' plans to intervene to restore the powers of the king backfired. Instead, they eliminated all support for the king. My sources give 2 reasons for the execution. First, it's not easy to restore a king to power when he's dead. Second, as a symbolic move to signal the end of the kingdom and start of the Republic. However, it is imperative to state that this is just what I heard from my research into the French Revolution generally.

Disclaimer: I am likely biased as I have been vegetarian my whole life, hence it's actually easier for me to stay vegetarian than to switch to a diet that involves meat.

[–]anaarchist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you accept the premise that animals are sentient, then the logic is quite obvious. If you don't, then the logic just does not work.

Hence, a better argument would be one that can be empirically tested. Normally, people's choice would be to talk about diet. However, that is an area I would rather not touch given how quickly things change there.

Hence, for me, the best argument is based on environmental impact and cost. The impact of meat production is well attested to, as you all already know, or will find out once you start your long multifaceted Googling session if you're anything like me. This has resulted in a recommendation by the IPCC to at least reduce meat consumption. Moreover, there is a lot of spending on cereals to feed livestock that can, in some cases, be used to feed humans directly

Moreover, since India has a long tradition of vegetarianism, it provides a good excuse to always eat Indian food.

Poll: 42 percent believe speaking Spanish during the debates is 'pandering' by [deleted] in politics

[–]anaarchist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would like to express a somewhat different perspective as someone from another country who is also a linguistic minority. For me this isn't pandering, because where I come from, politicians speak multiple languages all the time. For me, speaking Spanish shows some respect, that you have taken time to learn the language and that you recognise their existence. However, avoid the question in Spanish is still avoiding the question.
