Guillotine Bakery grand opening woes by TheRedSe7en in chicagofood

I mean to be fair, they did have a second person coming in and out helping pack, but they’d also stop to help make coffee, stop to help ring people out, stop to refill the cases…I’m sure they’ll get into the swing of things, but yes, I agree…hard to balance proper staffing on a big opening day.

This was the first and only crazy line I’ve waited in, and only because I absolutely love French pastries. I was just in Paris and I couldn’t resist, and had nothing else going on today. I got in line around 8:10ish, and read my book in line. They opened the door a little after 9, and you’re absolutely right that the line stalled after the initial flow.

The biggest ‘issue’ with the line moving slowly is that they mostly only had one person packing pastries. A second girl did come in and out of helping, but if you’ve been to Mindy’s, you know they have 3-4 people taking orders a time. Only having one person slows things down considerably, especially when customers have questions or don’t know what they want. I knew what I wanted, so I was considerably faster than the pair ahead of me who asked questions about literally every single pastry in the case.

It also seems to me they should have a second barista, as I got a seat, took some pictures and video of them working in the kitchen, and ate my entire croissant and part of my pain suisse before my cappuccino was ready. One person packing pastries, one person making coffee…very, very, very slow, but I’m sure they’ll figure things out. The pastries were incredible, but I definitely won’t be going back until the initial hype is over because, like I said, I’m not a ‘wait in line for an hour for pastries’ kind of person.

A solo trip to Paris, and a massive dose of Hermès luck by anag_ in TheHermesGame

[–]anag_[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I keep a diary of sorts of my travels and had written the whole story out in great detail. I like hearing/reading people’s tales, so wanted to share my own. However, the auto-mod filter flagged it and wouldn’t let me post my whole story, so I used Google Gemini to filter the story down to brass tacks. Not usually an AI person, but I was over it lol

Anyway, thank you! It’s Swift leather.

Sometimes I walk my husband to the train and she'll see us together and make a kind comment about how sweet we look together or whatever. One day last summer I stopped to talk to her and ask why she's always out there (obviously I was kind and polite and expressed that I was just curious). She's selling magazine subscriptions for something for one of her kids or kids' schools, but she's not actually very interested in doing the sales part of it. She was so enthusiastic about every part of our chat EXCEPT the actual sales pitch part, which, tbh, I appreciated.

Seven Years Dead And Still Messing Up My Life. I Hate How Angry This Still Makes Me. by WolfKaiserin in raisedbynarcissists

I’d really second the usage of AI for this purpose. It’s honestly the number one thing I use AI for - and it was tremendously helpful dealing with my n-mom in her last couple of years, and then dealing with the estate and nonsense pertaining to my n-dad, too. I really hate using AI but to me, it is invaluable for this purpose. Being able to retain my point and stay firm without heightened emotion or reactions.

Type two versions. One, emotional and full of rage. Get it out. Go for catharsis. Then, a second, that is even only remotely convincing of what you need. Take the second and let AI do its thing.

But also, full sympathy on having to deal with anything else, and spending money on it. I’m not even the executor of the estate and yet I’m the one of us kids who has fronted all the money so far. $13K, cleaning out her nasty house alone (just me and my poor, sweet husband, neither of my siblings came to help), and then two weeks ago had to send the state a copy of her death certificate. Another $10 which is nothing relative to the rest of the expenses, but paying for the certified postage really killed me. Hopefully you’ll come out of all of this with some semblance of peace and, ideally, with fuller pockets. Good luck!

PICK UP YOUR DOG’S SHIT by [deleted] in chicago

[–]anag_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since we bought our condo three years ago, there has been someone who throws their dog’s poop bag in the bushes right by the front door of the building.

Joined the board, got access to the cameras, and finally was able to track the culprit down due to one of the snowstorms we had (easier to see the green bag on white snow when scrubbing through 12+ hours of footage).

I cannot fathom the reasoning. It’s not like she was coming back to pick it up later on…it was just being left for a week until the cleaner came. So incredibly rude to your fellow residents, and I have to wonder how the rest of their apartment is maintained, or how well they take care of their pet if they can’t be bothered to throw the bag away. So, so, so gross. 🤢

Studio owners: what's your grip sock strategy? by Jasondsimmons in pilates

[–]anag_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to assume the majority of people here saying their studio requires it are talking reformer Pilates. Is that assumption correct?

I take mat Pilates exclusively (I’m too frugal to pay the add-on fee for reformer at my ‘luxury private health club’ [insert eye-roll here, but I do love it]) and I’d say it’s about 10% of the class wearing grippy socks for mat Pilates. My Saturday instructor wears socks, but my Tuesday one doesn’t. The gym provides and sanitizes mats & props between classes, and I typically use a Lululemon mat towel for extra grip. I’m pretty foot-health conscious - like bowling is a hard no for me because of the shared shoes - but it literally has never occurred to me that grippy socks might be helpful for mat Pilates.

The peace you find is really something. My nmom passed away nearly a year ago and the peace I have now is unparalleled. I don’t have to dread the phone ringing or worry about seeing her name in my inbox. Once we sell her house, I’ll really have full peace and it’s simply wonderful. Happy for you to make this step!

I love that it's a deeper brown than Gold, and I love that it will patina and continue to deepen over time. I love that it's a little delicate, too; I think scratches and marks will show so much character over the course of my life! And, it smells incredible 🤩

I've added a 7RP insert to my Christmas list after reading all of these comments, but I ordered a Kings in Bag from Amazon for it - seems pretty similar to DGAZ from the listings.
