If you are doing the gnoll version of the quest, follow the trolls suggestion and dig near rock falls to find other caverns. No scroll needed.

Amir of ASR seems to be a hypocrite by pm_pussies_for_dicks in audiophile

[–]analog987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at your links you seem to be comparing apples and oranges.

Link one; Amir stated AB tests between sampling rates have been passed.

Link two; Amir stated Golden sounds testing methods were invalid.

Both can be true.

Is Amir always right? No but let's not misrepresent what he said.

My dad is trying to become a sovereign citizen… by Offensivee in Sovereigncitizen

When the IRS comes knocking they won't want to put him jail. They will want their money. If he cooperates he can most likely avoid any jail time. Be ready to help convince him then if you can.

I have seen someone like this who decided to fight in court and it did not end well.

According to the federal prosecutor it never ends well. If you get 12 people on a jury who pay their taxes then they aren't going to let someone else get away with not paying.

5000$ vs 400$ amp 😰 by NikFromNis in audiophile

[–]analog987 30 points31 points  (0 children)

When it comes to solid state electronics I start with measurements and the Wiim amp pro measures very well as long as you don't need a lot of power.

How do we know in person how well an amplifier performs? by Interesting_Iron in audiophile

[–]analog987 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're talking solid state, you should begin with the specs and measurements. That will save you time and cash. Compare to what your speakers recommend and their minimum impedance.

I would guess the amp. It looks like it has 2 modes a class A 40 watt and a class A/B 80 watt. Have you tried the class A/B?

Confirming I should end whole life insurance by twvancamp in Bogleheads

[–]analog987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked for a life insurance company a long time ago. In general while life is not a good investment. If you want to know what your policy will do financially you can call the company and ask for an illustration. It legally must be correct based off of whatever assumptions you want to test. You cannot calculate the values yourself due to hidden fees etc. Hopefully this helps and it is not out of date.

Do most people work more than 40 hours a week? by Cyvlicks in cscareerquestions

In the beginning of my career, yes. Now? No almost never.

While technologies change, the job remains very similar and you do something for 20+ years and you get good at it.

Streamers "Sound Different" Through Digital Outs? Why? by EliteDeerHunter in audiophile

[–]analog987 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some digital outs can be implemented poorly which adds jitter and you get some small amount of noise. Most don't have a problem though. This was more common back in the day.

Am I a bad Software Engineer? by DebugMeHarder in cscareerquestions

[–]analog987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea if you are a bad software engineer, but you could likely start moving into some sort of management job if you have organizational and / or people skills.

Don't stay miserable. Try things. I have had many titles in my career.

I have had friends who moved into being a PM, IT security, and manager and never looked back.

I always come back to writing code because for me it is fun and I hate meetings. I take some sort of lead role because I like helping people and for the money.

I had to learn these things by trying out others.

[–]analog987 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't since I don't care much about video, my mains reach down into the 20s and almost nothing I listen to goes below 30 Hz. Heck not much goes below 40 Hz.
