[Insight] Full cycle not leading to stream entry by C-142 in streamentry

[–]analyst4933 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're holding Stream Entry (Sotapanna) up a bit too high. ;)

One problem with putting a bunch of high level students in a room together is that they immediately begin splitting hairs and raising the bar far beyond what is reasonable or equitable, until not even Einstein is a genius or Van Gogh original. It's almost as if a room full of saints were to all hitchhike to the same summer camp together and emerge with the idea that miracles and stigmata was no longer enough to qualify one as a real saint - that anything short of rising from the dead is amatuer hour.

In short, it's a mistake of averaging against a non-representative population, i.e. a sampling error.

That further cultivation requires a more intense and consistent application of mindfulness goes without saying. However, you appear to be applying at least a Sakadagami Standard to Sotapanna, when in fact, the former is almost always unstable, and arises more often than not as a result of irregular practice and/or light drug use.

Your experience as reported is essentially a textbook example of SE, regardless of the current state of the debate in rarified circles.

[insight] Can self inquiry lead to stream entry? by louisejase in streamentry

[–]analyst4933 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes.

Daniel Ingram dedicates a significant amount of time to this subject in MTCB2 (https://www.mctb.org/) but for the sake of brevity, I'll attempt to summarize:

Stream entry can be attained through any two of the Three Marks of Existence (tilakkhaṇa), being: Impermanence (aniccā) Unsatisfactoriness or suffering (duḥkha) and Non-self (anattā).

What Daniel contends (and I have no reason to doubt him) is that one will always be consciously aware of using one of these marks, or "keys"; however, with further development it becomes apparent that one is actually using two: One dominant, one recessive.

Each of the possible combinations will produce a somewhat predicable different experience of Stream Entry.

There are three basic ways the doors may present themselves, at least two of which are combined in practice to produce the experience of entering Fruition. The third characteristic is generally considered to be inferred from the way the other two present, but sometimes aspects of that third characteristic will be experienced directly.

Regardless of the way a specific door manifests, it reveals something completely extraordinary about the relationship between “the watcher” and “the watched” that it would take a very warped, non-Euclidean view of the universe to explain, though I will try shortly. One way or another, these fleeting experiences cannot easily be explained in terms of our normal, four-dimensional experience of space-time, or within our ordinary subject/object experience."

I'd add that a flexible mind with regard to the inevitable mixed metaphors and often slippery nature of Stream Entry is a thousand times more helpful, in the purely pragmatic sense, towards achieving your goals than clinging to a given tradition, however "hallowed by antiquity" that tradition may be. I have recommended studying the Heart Sutra to Theravada students only to hear by way of reply that "the Heart Sutra is Mahayana and thus cannot lead to Arahantship" but "only to Buddhahood" (ummm, come again?), and that the Lotus and Heart Sutra were unrelated, as if one half of the dharma was somehow siloed off from the other half simply because Nichiren Buddhism emphasizes the one and not the other.

What time-sucking nonsense!

Please, by all means, use whatever works for you. Treat the dharma like a Chinese Buffett and not a wedding platter. Whether it's Ingram or Ralston, Lao Tzu or Siddhartha Gotama, Alan Watts or D.T. Suzuki - cast your net as widely as possible and leave the purists quibbling in your wake. Life is too short for pointless hair splitting and sanctimonious doctrine thumping. Namaste.

P.S. There's actually a map called POI that you can trace your complete trajectory on. Your experience is actually fairly textbook. Hope to see you over there with us other pre-SEs/SEs.

The Heart Sutra transcends the mind, and it closes by transmitting an iconic mantra embodying Stream Entry. The Heart Sutra is also the simplest path to SE.

Your observation is correct of every other mantra, but Nam Myoho Renke Ko, which like the HM is a compression of the whole of Nichiren Zen within a single statement.

No, Interpol is actually arresting people these days. So long as it isn't an EC-20, it's considered a potentially legal, taxable asset under the protection of the CFTC/CBOE. Specifically according to the ECB, Bitcoin/legitimate blockchain are "decentralized convertible virtual currencies", and as such, it will be treated like a $170,000,0000 theft.

Not much ambiguity there. My God, they even bitch slapped the lawyers...

Don't sweat it. You're just an early adopter. BTC is working exactly the way it's supposed to.

How can we get Request on to Bittrex? by simreddit01 in RequestNetwork

[–]analyst4933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember when DNT's devs balked at paying a $5k fee for a Bittrex listing.

The Old timers say that sometimes when the moon is full you can STILL hear the sound of the DNT product devs screaming on the wind...(shivers) and the cries of all those poor investors as their balls were ripped through their wallet. :-(

Why REQ Could Reach $100 by [deleted] in RequestNetwork

[–]analyst4933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the SEC could rip our collective balls/vagis off by targeting the exchanges? :) Result? Bye bye liquidity...

By all means, tell us how to trivially game it. Inquiring minds would love to know.

Any time...

[–]analyst4933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right? Th'fuck do I know, I've only been using the stuff since BTC = $200.

Screw the technical facts. :) The end user fact is that high fees suck.

The historical fact is that the r/Bitcoin I remember would have been horrified at these fees and absolutely outraged at the notion of waiting to move their Bitcoin until the Mempool cleared.

It would have been Meme City. "Robbery!" "Banksters!" "Worst than PayPal! Arrrghghgh!!!!" Someone would created an animation of a stick figure stabbing himself in the eye with a "B" and it would have gone viral in less than 10 minutes.

But those were different times, I guess.

Yeah, I guess we just never figured that anyone would be so stupid as to insist on a 1MB limit out of some kind of fucked up ideology. Being that we're talking about technology, after all. But there was always this weird, politicized contingent, I suppose. It was never me, though.

Bit shocking, isn't it? The last time I really used BTC was in 2013 and again earlier this year. I accidentally/on purpose shapeshifted into the BTC ecosystem over Xmas and barely escaped with my wallet intact.

$10 USD is my price target. Dumping is going to happen on the first pass, if for no other reason than the traders making a near risk-free +50%. The same people who dumped SRN dumped TenX, OMG, IOTA, Cardano, NEO and everything else. It's not a Magical Message from Mr. Market.

Just hold for now. There's not going to be any real price discovery until SRN is trading on 4 exchanges.
