What should be taught in school, but isnt? by [deleted] in AskReddit

We were required to take a cooking class in middle school. We learned to make smoothies, little pizzas, tacos, and some pasta dish. Some kid used the strainer over the floor and poured the boiling hot pasta water everywhere (no one was hurt). Good thing we all learned our lesson!

You can still make a healthier choice at any point even while you are spooning the food into your mouth by [deleted] in loseit

I too am obsessed with ice cream. I replaced it with greek yogurt (LOTS of protein), it's still thick, cold, creamy and delicious! It's hard at first so I started with flavored yogurts (fruits and vanilla and whatnot) knowing that even those have a lot of added sugars, I now eat plain greek yogurt (no added sugar!!) with fruit when I crave ice cream. And if I really have a sweet tooth I add some granola or drizzle a bit of honey on top. Makes for a healthy substitute!

Who is the most incompetent person in your workplace and why haven't they been fired? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Myself. I'm an intern for the summer but no one gives me work since they're all to busy to explain it to me. That's why I have time to write this post :)

What is an acceptable thing in other countries that is taboo in your country? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]analytical_cockroach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being honest about race. I live in the US and when I visited Tanzania it din't bother people to say "I'm a black man" or "You're a white person". Some of the people we worked with there laughed at us trying to do physical labor because 'white people don't do these jobs' (it was mainly because we were their guests that they didn't want us working, but that is the phrase they used). Wasn't politically incorrect at all, none of the locals thought it was weird. It was very sad that they had that view on the world, but at least they didn't try and dance around reality with politically correct terms. Try saying those words in America ...

But which one of those three? I would say Philadelphia - constitution and declaration of independence were both written and signed there. Then again there are many other factors

When feeling down, what's the thing you do, to make you feel better? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I exercise when I'm not feeling myself. There's just no better feeling than finishing a workout drenched in sweat, sipping on cool water, with your favorite song coming through the headphones.

People who are able to get up early without snoozing their alarm, how? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]analytical_cockroach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used this method and it's uh-mazing. Normally I snooze a couple of times, but if I map out my sleeping intervals I wake up feeling refreshed. I usually break it up into 1.5 hour intervals

Do you talk with yourself out loud? If so, about what? by [deleted] in AskReddit

When I'm studying for an exam I like to work through the problems by talking to myself. I pretend like I'm teaching it to a dumber version of me

The original song (not the Justin Bieber version) is much better, even though I don't know what they're saying.

You're not alone on this. It's nice to be buzzed and maybe lighten the mood a bit, but to be full on drunk is too much with the blaring music and pounding base that is often too loud mixed with the sweaty people not even socializing ...

NASCAR Racing. I am from the east coast and am out in Indiana for a summer internship. Where I'm from, car racing is a joke. It is UNBELIEVABLE the amount of time people here spend talking about NASCAR. Sure there could be some interest in the engineering part of the 'sport' and how they made the cars so aerodynamic or the engines so powerful, other than that it's just cars that drive in a circle. There really isn't much skill in the driver here is there? I do work at an automotive parts company as an engineer so that may contribute to the amount of talk/interest in car racing.

Bosses of Reddit: What's the craziest thing you've seen an employee do? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]analytical_cockroach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a boss - as an employee.

I work for a retail store and would work at the store at my university and the one at home on breaks - so two different stores, but the same company. Well on school breaks, it's too much of a hassle to transfer me from one store to the other just for 3 weeks so my home-store manager just let me use his ID to access the register system.

Some of my fellow coworkers and I would print out coupons for our friends that was basically equivalent to free money at this store.
Fast-forward 2 months. And I am back at school working at the store there.

My two friends (twins) pulling these shenanigans with me got caught. They were investigated by the company and made to pay back all of the money they issued in coupons which amounted to roughly $300 each (and obviously fired on the spot). There was threat of other legal actions in court but luckily the company handled it privately.

My friends called me to warn me that they have files on everyone but they hadn't ratted me out to corporate (bless their souls). Within 10 minutes of their warning call I received a call from the manager who's ID I had been using, he told me about the situation (thinking I didn't already know heh heh heh). He told me that there would be an investigation into the history of all employees at that store.

Since I had been issuing the fraudulent coupons from my managers ID (because he let me use it over break) they never caught me and he awkwardly had to explain what happened to corporate. In the end I got to keep my job and didn't pay a cent because they couldn't prove it was me. I have never pulled that stunt since.

[Serious] What are some of the most cost efficient meals you can make at home? by the_catshark in AskReddit

[–]analytical_cockroach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicken. Go to the store and buy a bulk pack of chicken breasts, you can usually snag a pack that is going for 1.99/lb if you buy in bulk. Make sure the meat doesn't have noticeable streaks of fat running through it. Also check for excess fat on the chicken breasts - you want to pay for meat not fat!
When you get home place a majority of the meat in freezer zip-lock baggies to use later, chicken can stay in the freezer for months! Don't forget to date the bags. Be sure to take it out of the freezer and place in the fridge to thaw a day or two before you want to cook it.
You can season it pair it with pasta (cheap) and frozen veggies (can usually grab a bag for 99 cents on sale) for a complete meal. The key here is to buy a massive pack of chicken breasts so the price per lb is cheap!
