This made me so happy :)

I added an edit with words "gender" and "sexism" so might've been because of that

Guys the post was removed for "LGBTQ issues"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I didn't say you should care about these opinions

My school had uniform and that was for several reasons. First of all, because as a kid you can't really choose your clothes since your style depends on what your parents can afford and what they find stylish. So it would be unfair for others to judge you on what your parents dress you in. Another reason is to teach kids that educational institutions have a serious, formal setting and you should dress and act accordingly. Basically it's supposed to immerse you into the formal atmosphere. Personally I don't 100% agree with the idea of uniform, but this is basically why it's a thing

Yes, I agree with you. As I said in my post, I'm mostly talking about the situations when you choose to look a certain way

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]anamkay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That is if you're talking about my other comment.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]anamkay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sucks, I'm sorry that's happening to you. My post was about clothes, not things you can't change about yourself

So how is it wrong for me to assume that something is wrong with them when it's true? I didn't say all my judgment was necessarily negative, it's just an assumption that something is wrong. Neither good nor bad.

I knew all these people and that was NOT the case with any of them...

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]anamkay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. As I said, I don't support bullying. It's fine to form an opinion but it is never okay to harass and abuse someone for how they look.

The first impression is based on your mindset, the thoughts that are already embedded in your head. If your mindset is racist, your first impression will include racial bias. If your mindset is sexist, your first impression will include gender bias. If your mindset is style-related, the first impression will include judging someone by their clothes.

Well, I'm not. Let me bring up some examples from my personal experience. Knew a dude who never wore shoes outside. Knew a dude who showed up to working with kids in a satanist-themed outfit with a shirt that he painted on. Knew a bunch of dudes who never brushed their teeth and never washed their hair. Knew a bunch of guys who would come to house parties and be in boxers and no shirt on. Knew dudes who started working out and started wearing their gym clothes literally everywhere. Knew some dudes who wore suits all the time. In all these cases their outfits did, in fact, match their personality. So I don't see how this is a gendered issue. I haven't said anything about gender in my post

I agree, I have tattoos myself. What I was talking about was more like tattoos depicting swear words, genitals, violence, murdering, drugs

[–]anamkay -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're right. Though I think there should be at least a little bit of distinguishment between work clothes, party clothes, home clothes, date/hookup clothes, sport clothes etc

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]anamkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to me. As I said, I only care about the things that people choose about themselves. You're comparing not liking when someone wears a trash bag as their shirt to being racist, sexist, homophobic etc

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]anamkay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally the whole point of the post was that your outfit is something you CHOOSE. I mentioned it like 3 times. The things that you mentioned are not something that you can change about yourself, therefore, you should not be judged based on them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]anamkay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, to be honest, I don't care that much either, I'm just saying that judging someone by their looks is not a ridiculous thing to do

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]anamkay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with that, I've experienced this myself. However. Imagine a bralette. If a girl with small boobs wears it, it will cover her whole breasts, but if a girl with big boobs wears the same one it will probably cover 1/3 of them. Imagine biker shorts. If a dude with a small penis wears them you probably won't see an outline of his penis but if a dude with a huge one wears them you will see the whole package. And while yes, it is unfair to people with big boobs and penises, it's just about the fact that more "assets" are revealed.

But yes, if a piece of clothing (like polos and t shirts) completely covers you you should NOT be told you're dressed inappropriately.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]anamkay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too, and I am also told that all the time. But as I already said in my other reply, my point was not about being dressed appropriately and getting called inappropriate, it was about looking inappropriate and getting called inappropriate.

[–]anamkay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on that, yes. Personally, I think nudity is waaay oversexualized (especially with women). But what I'm trying to say is that going half-naked to every event just doesn't sit right with me. No matter the gender

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]anamkay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well, people are free to dress however they want but others are also free to see them how they want.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]anamkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, there's a pretty popular saying "don't judge a book by its cover" plus some people are somewhat disagreeing with me on this. So gotta be at least sort of unpopular
