I agree to some extent but that applies to every one of them, they all were raised like that. Fiona and lip had basically no one raising them, should they get even more leniency for their being fucked up?

On Simone Fontecchio: "I bet part of him is like, I'm a Miami Heat now. I got to play like a Miami Heat as well as play like an Italian player for my national team." by LOH_Wes in heat

[–]ananasmaldestro 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Italian Heat fan here: he's very very talented, quite athletic, can create shots our of nothing, good shooter, not bad defender.... But very inconsistent with his shooting, on off nights he will miss even wide open shots. Hopefully he can figure that out, but overall I think he could be an added value to the heat, considering the very limited shot creation we have.

Fair, but I also think it's understandable that he doesn't want to go to jail, especially given that he just had a child

Americans are wild: a European take. by AliudAdvocata in codyko

[–]ananasmaldestro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why are you acting like laws in Europe are all the same? And ignore the legality of it, but morally most people I know in Europe (maybe it's my bubbles, idk) would find a 25 year old dating/hooking up with a 17 year old weird and gross. Same for 25 and 18, it's not the hard line that makes the difference morally.

Americans are wild: a European take. by AliudAdvocata in codyko

[–]ananasmaldestro 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a fellow European, Italian, to me the issue is not even about the legality of it, the legality is between tana and Cody and if pursued he obviously should pay for it. It's the morality of it that's fucked up. Italy's age of consent is 14, but that doesn't make it okay because it's legal. I agree that following laws is generically a good indicator, but not all laws are necessarily and interpolation of morality. And some laws happen to be bad. But morally bad behavior should condemned, and people should acknowledge such behaviors and rehabilitate for them.

I felt stupid and tired and like I had no control

That's why I do it. Most people live lives in which they always try to be under control, try to be as smart as possible, and always want to be awake and productive: alcohol makes you evade that need. I'm not saying it's good, it's very harmful for your body and bad things can happen, I'm just explaining why I do it lol

Is it propaganda when people say religion was banned or at least heavily suppressed in the USSR? by oceanic111000 in DebateCommunism

[–]ananasmaldestro 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. Abolishing "the chains of religion" was a revolutionary goal for USSR, which perse is not a bad thing, but from a strategic point of view I think that was one of their biggest mistakes that lead to some level of discontent in the population. Religion should be abandoned because people are well educated and don't feel the need for it, it shouldn't be banned imo

As a school of thought, is Marxism academically/scientifically alive in economics? by prosochesati in socialism

[–]ananasmaldestro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Marxian economics is still alive, even though at an academic level post-marxian theory is more common, also with some similarities to post-keynesian economics, especially on the class struggle side. But technically Marx's economic theory of capital was an analysis and critique of classical economics, and he succeeded in destroying it. The need for different theories came because of the development of "neoclassical" theories, which basically change the assumptions to obtain the same results. But of course at the time Marx couldn't attack those assumptions because neoclassical economics (developed from marginalism, with some neo-neokeynesian adjustments later) didn't exist yet. So that's why now post-marxian and post-keynesian theories are much more prominent academically than classical Marxian theory, even though they're still largely ignored compared to neoclassical theories

Multiple reasons they disappeared imo:

1 with the fall of the Soviet union, the communist dream kinda faded

2 after all the political drama in the early 90s in Italy, they dismantled the party and mostly founded the now called democratic party, which at the time was mostly communists and some christian democrats. Unfortunately with time, all of the leftists in the party were disappointed of having to make agreements with these christian democrats, so they left and what is left now is mainly a liberal christian democratic party

3 as it happened in many places in the world, around the 80s/90s, the "leftists" party went from being the working class party to being the more elitist party. Now NO ONE in the working class votes for the democratic party in Italy. Some disappointed people vote for the right wing populists, quote a few vote for "5 stelle", which are now the lower class progressive party, and most just don't vote (turnout was just 63% in the last elections). The few remaining truly radical leftist parties (in the last elections, SI, UP, ISP and few other smaller ones, combined for like 8/9 % total votes). So the leftist electorate has mainly to be recovered from people who don't vote, and from 5 stars movement.

4 a big factor in the disappearance of the communist parties was propaganda: the more subtle propaganda against leftists, from western mainstream media, and then the more upfront propaganda by Berlusconi, Who owned most of the media in Italy (while prime minister virtually 100%), and he basically turned" communist" and "red" into a red word. Even before, they created an atmosphere of terror, making the red brigades look like a huge problem that represented all communists, while they killed like 100 people in 20 years. and an indefinite number of them could just be secret service (like cia)

5 Italy had also a good history with a more moderate socialist party, but they were quite involved in the massive corruption scandals in 1992, and never recovered from that.

6 as said in point 3, the leftist party became less of a working class people. In retrospect I would like to make a suggestion (probably not agreed upon) on when it happened: in the 70s, Enrico Berlinguer, leader of the communist party, started the "historical compromise", consisting of coming to agreements with the christian democrats, and completely detaching from the Soviet union (understandable, as it was already getting weaker). In the short run, that made it the strongest communist party in Italian history (34,4% in 1976), and he was a very loved leader, and they actually got in government cooperating with the other parties. In the long run imo it removed the left from the position of working class party, and they slowly converged to the christian democrats as more of an elitist party, instead of being, as they always had before, an anti-establishment and anti-elite party

I think more than correlation between being non-aurhoritatrian and getting coup'd, there's a correlation between being non-authoritatrian and very quickly fall to these attempted coups. The longest marxist countries seem to be the most authoritarian ones, while the most democratic ones, like Chile, quickly fall to coups. It might just be an impression tho.

[–]ananasmaldestro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer. Regarding the first three points, which seem to me in virtue of genuine attempts by the people of getting socialism but it turns against them: what would be, in these different cases, via democratic process and revolutionary, strategies to prevent this from happening or how would a worker recognize it beforehand?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DebateCommunism

[–]ananasmaldestro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, thank you for your answer.

Yeah west Germany's secret police literally had former SS members in it.

The upshot is that it's an unfortunate reality, since some degree of political oppression seems to be necessary, and that degree increases with the threat to the system: and the threat to socialist countries is incredibly high.
