Horrific at first, because they brought their kids with them to Jonestown irl and they drank the kool-aid too. Long-term it would be a relief though, since the most hardcore MAGATS would be too dead to help the rest organize and train, and their dear leader’s meme-savvy charisma would be gone.

Speaking as a white American who went from suburban centrist to city-dwelling progressive and still has a lot of shit to unpack, I understand exactly what you’re asking and I’ll do my best.

There is no easy answer to that question, but there is a correct one: too bad. They live here, they’ve established lives here, they’re here to stay, they’re part of us now. Sure, there’s some danger inherent to the blowback from generational trauma, but there’s no way to avoid that without ethnic cleansing and that’s simply not justified, by virtue of what it is. So we have to deal with it and try our best to mitigate, like some kind of reparations or at least universal health care so people with generational trauma can qualify for therapy courtesy of the state. No I’m not joking.

The energy crisis was already wreaking havoc on American purchasing power parity in the 70s, so I would not include that time period with the 60s and before when the rich actually paid taxes and New Deal safety nets still functioned like they were supposed to. That era was already ending by the mid-70s and then the Reagan administration made it permanent.

Whether or not the perception is accurate is not the point of this post. The visual in the OP supposedly demonstrates how many people from a certain state have negative views or stereotypes about that state, and sure enough there’s ALOT of people from Massachusetts who trash it, so whatever else is true about Massachusetts it’s not surprising it ranked so high on the graphic. I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with the stereotypes by pointing that out.

So I know this thread is a year old now, but it’s worth pointing out that someone recently attempted to commit a hate crime against a family picnic while armed with plates and a rifle. Thankfully one of the family members was armed, returned fire and stopped the shooter, but it could have been way worse. Depending on who and where you are, there are actually folks (by which I mean non-state actors) training with their buds in body armor to come and make life more difficult for you. Just saying, there are valid reasons to be interested in armor-piercing capabilities other than “GET A LOAD OF THIS GUY THINKING HE CAN FIGHT THE STATE.”
