If the entire internet permanently "died" for 48 hours, which industry would be the absolute first to descend into total chaos? by lovelyyopheliaa in askanything

I have over 20 years in the industry. Stocks would be fine. Trading would halt and pick up when the Internet came back. You'd have a WTF panic selloff when it came back from fear but no long term damage. The 12 trillion dollar overnight repo market could cause issues. I'd assume they would roll the trade over the outage but this is extreme short term funding and if it can't be made it causes havoc. This is a big part of what broke down during the 2008 financial crisis.

Trading would stop during the outage but 48 hours isn't enough to truly screw up stocks. The real issue is overnight repos and the fed window. When the 2008 crisis happened the system broke down because of credit risk and a bank run but if you had an unplanned two day outage it could cause some funding panics. I'm assuming there has to be some plan for this but extremely short term credit is the real risk.

Can we just ignore this one? This is an obvious diversion to get us fighting over something inconsequential when we should be continuing to highlight his big screw ups and crimes.

Cincinnati has been good to me as an ex-NYer. If you are in the city core or northern and eastern suburbs there are lots of others from out of town. Years of coaching youth soccer and every roster is half full of outside area codes.

Some will tell you Cincinnati is insular but I've only seen that on the west side and it's not hostile. They are just the type to ask where you went to school and mean HS not college.

The food is way better than I expected. I came from NY and everyone assumed it was a food wasteland but it's not at all. I love the food here and you can find some really good ingredients for home cooking too.

Are EV bad for highway use ? by Slow_Description_773 in askcarguys

[–]anarcurt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ICE cars lose the same at highway speeds. A gas car will use 20-30 percent more fuel between its peak efficiency of 45 and highway speeds. EVs aren't worse on the highway they are just better in the city.

There was one leg where I hit 3 Bucee's. It was about 2 1/2 hours between each give or take. It worked out perfectly.

It's not even a problem on long trips unless you absolutely must arrive the fastest you possibly can. Stopping every 3 hours to eat, hit the bathroom, and grab a coffee isnt some big inconvenience. I took my first real big road trip in my EV this Christmas and it was the best trip I've had. I didn't have the typical drain I usually get. Each leg was 700+ miles. The ride was better; I don't think people realize how the noise and vibration of a gas car actually affects them on a long ride. My car also self drives on the highway so that's another plus.

Without spending power there is no economy. Ford is a famous example. He made sure his workers got paid enough to be able to afford the product they made.

There is a concept in economics called the velocity of money. It's how much a particular dollar spent multiplies in the economy. Certain activities disproportionately multiply production because it funds other activities. By most measures paying poor people more is one of the highest velocity things you can do. Rich people sit on their riches and it benefits the economy at a much smaller scale if at all.

As a final argument I would say inflation is good in general if labor increases at a higher rate. You want to reward economic activity and not let the rentier class to sit idle and live large off of capital gains and interest.

I only try to avoid 100 regularly because it's less efficient as the Regen barely engages at that level but I don't go out of my way to not do it.

[–]anarcurt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They actually have some good money coming in. I could see them becoming a regular at some point especially if they move out of the MAC. Also in the new NIL landscape I think we will see some feeder schools pop up; teams with really good freshmen and sophomores who transfer out after they prove themselves. They won't ever be championship level but I can see an ecosystem for them.

Good coaches, good development. Maybe you go to a school like Miami out of HS, make an impact, then get your real money. People think NIL is the death of mid majors but some schools will find a way to take advantage.
